Placated Armitage
Numerous sources reporting availability of a limited edition Thorin figure (500 of 700 will be sold at Comic-Con, and I guess the Comic-Con ones will have shields but the others won’t?).
That news made me think of this quotation, regarding the embarrassment factor associated with the Guy of Gisborne action figure:
That quotation in turn made me think of Armitage’s statement that he doesn’t recognize himself when he looks at Thorin: “I look in the mirror when it’s all finished and I don’t see it. I can’t see where it starts and where it ends. I just see the character. I’ve never had that before. It’s such a unique experience. It’s a face that doesn’t belong to me.“
So, two questions:
Does that placate him about this Thorin figure (and others)?
and — if they give him one –
What will he use the sword and shield to practice for?
(and, sorry, Mr. Armitage, this one looks a lot more like you than the Guy of Gisborne action figure did.)

It certainly does
I don’t have a “little Guy” but I’d dearly love a “little Thorin”
I just hope that the price comes down a bit!
There are other ones that are cheaper — in the $15 range. I’ve preordered a few
Could you tell me the URL, please?
I got mine from Big Bad Toys, but it looks they are out of their preorder amounts. There will be more available, gradually.
Thank you. I’ll try the Weta workshop website to see if they have any ideas.
I cant wait for my Little Thorin to meet my Little Guy ☺ And your right LG looks nothing like Richard!
Hi Mersguy. Are you the lady from Perth, WA?
Me too.
When I saw this it reminded me of all the sword fighting Guy did in RH and that we’ll probably see more of that in The Hobbit which is fine with me because I love a good sword fight. And I’m probably wrong about this but I also saw this as a sign of how RA’s portrayal of Thorin is going to dominate this movie/experience. Even though he’s been in the background for the past 2 years, his character is the first to be promoted.
I imagine it’s a combination — on the one hand he’s an unknown in comparison to Freeman and McKellen, so they need to promote him a bit; on the other hand, it is a leading role so it makes sense to promote him.
Servetus, thanks for this clip. Though this interview is one of my favourite’s, I just realised I haven’t seen it in a while. It can bring me to heel again and again. Watching your excerpt leaves me with another question: Isn’t he plain extra adorable here?? Jeez, me sooo excited! (Richie was probably really more handy for him!??
)
Yes, he *is* adorable here. Jane likes this interview quite a lot, too.
It’s an adorable interview… And he says “Hungary” in it in that sweet voice of his (see my comment to the following post) *swoon*
I watched that clip several times. It epitomises his mixture of shyness and cheekiness. And it cracks me up how in the end he tries very hard to be serious but can’t suppress laughter.
This bust has been digitally scanned to ensure the likeness of Richard Armitage, his outfit, and weapons are all film accurate. Each of these busts has also been hand painted to insure the highest quality collectible. link
Have you seen the lego blocks? Those were definitely not digitally scanned. Never imagined when I first started following RA’s career that I would one day see his image recreated in Lego blocks.
Hi Serv,To me,
The Thorin figure looks to have RA’s eyes, nose, and jaw right as various portraits of RA “as” Thorin have shown us. So, the sculptor did do a good job on this.
And I can see why RA doesn’t recognize himself when he looks at pictures of himself as Thorin. Heck! RA is such a chameleon as an actor, I don’t recognize him half of the time in whatever role he is playing. RA truly immerses himself in his roles. No pun intended regarding his roles involving barrels in rapids, submarines, and such. Ha!
Cheers! Grati ;->
He has the sweetest smile… *sigh*
[...] then I concluded we probably wouldn’t. If the Guy of Gisborne figure bothered him, this is the kind of thing is unlikely to be better. Hope you memorized a bunch of Zen poems, Mr. [...]
