Second Breakfast invitation — worldwide!
If I’ve occasionally been “meh” on The Hobbit, I’ve never been “meh” on invitations to eat!
No, I have no idea who’s promoting this. [ETA: Here's the link. You can do it in school!]
What would you serve at your Second Breakfast if Thorin Oakenshield were coming?

Well, erm.. oh, this is a breakfast. Sorry. Read that as: “what would I serve Thorin.”
and now you’ve inserted my nickname into it!!!
Did you see there is a downloadable packet to help you plan your second breakfast? Recipe ideas, crossword puzzles, banner pieces…

Mmmmm. Recipes!!!!
Waffles with butter and pure maple syrup, bacon, little pork sausages, fresh berries, a couple of coddled eggs with toast points, hash browns with scallions, fresh-squeezed orange juice, his choice of coffee or English Breakfast tea, and a side order of lovin’, were he so inclined. It has been said that a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach; maybe that is true of a dwarf king also?
you’re optimistic about the lovin’, after all those carbs. Better spike the pancakes with Nodoze.
Of course, Thorin*is* a mighty dwarf.
Actually, the proteins and the vitamins are well-represented, too, and there’s caffeine in the beverage. I have served similar meals to a male human with a comparable activity level with good results, so the optimism is not unfounded.
LOL! What a cool idea. And I actually prefer breakfast later in the morning–brunch. Hmmmm. He looks like a hearty eater. A meat and potatoes dwarf? A nice breakfast casserole with hashbrowns, sausage and lots of cheese, perhaps. Pancakes–blueberry–with Smucker’s blueberry syrup and lots of butter. He’d need help getting his beard tidied up afterwards. Or a traditional southern breakfast: fluffy buttermilk biscuits with homemade preserves, eggs (scrambled or fried) with thick-cut bacon, country ham or patty sausage, piping hot grits with butter . . . oh, man. I skipped lunch and i need a snack.
LOL
mmm. breakfast strata. Reading this comment I was starting to worry you’d skip the grits but I see you got ‘em in!
Servetus, of course I remembered the grits! I am a GRITS (Girl Raised in the South)
I think if they were properly tarted up he’d love them. Stick-to-your-ribs food.
I’m thinking some very spicy chilaquiles or migas with frijoles on the side. But I think I’m only thinking that because I haven’t had a Tex-Mex breakfast in a very, very long time … can’t imagine a dwarf would want that stuff.
Lox …
I think Thorin might appreciate lox, cream cheese, and bagels, rather than huevos rancheros, chorizo, linguica, and tortillas, but you never know…
spicy foods do get the clothes off faster
yeah, but at least in my experience, they don’t do much for duration and they can cause indigestion at awkward moments.
it depends on your level of habituation. Also, to be kissed when your lips are slightly swollen or burnt from chile … the sensitivity level …
Servetus better stop.
Oh, darn … don’t stop now!
Freshly made strawberry, peach and white chocolate scones, hot black coffee.
Followed by a ham/asparagus/parmesan frittata, with a side of perfectly prepared home fries.
“Dessert” … strawberries, whipped cream and …
Zan should stop now …
I like asparagus. Mmmmm. Very good for the … (coughs)
Exactly!
I once had a highly Jungian dream about the quest for the perfect recipe for asparagus souffle… Go for it.
there’s a post on this blog about asparagus, but only about how to cook it so it gets softer.
[...] I sit down to celebrate a slightly solitary second breakfast (I’m having a latte macchiatto and a danish) for the end of Tolkien Week, I’m thinking [...]
