Woo Hoo!
I have to say, I was really afraid I’d have to drive to Chicago.
I’m so glad you’ll get to see “The Hobbit” as it was intended to be seen. Not having to drive to Chicago is a big plus.
As the weather is likely to be bad. But it’s not as annoying as your situation, I confess
Advance tickets already on sale here but no mention of frame rates. Have emailed the local Showcase which is the poshest local cinema to see if they’ll be showing it in 48fps…have 2 more options if not but am currently not hopeful. I want to see it in 3D but worried about migraines and I understand 48fps helps with that.
48 fps is supposed to smooth out the motion created by the frame switching in 24 fps 3D, so if that’s part of triggers migraine, it really should help.
When I heard PJ quoted as having watched hundreds of hours of this HFR footage and it really being better, I actually thought that if you did nothing but look at 3D all the time I can see where you’d really want a guard against disorientation. I suppose people with tendencies to motion sickness or migraine might be in that same group.
Imax gave me a migraine, but seeing “The Avengers” in 3D didn’t. The process has gotten better, but I am really hoping that I can see “The Hobbit” at 48 fps. I found CRT computer screens were deadly until I got an LCD screen with a much faster refresh rate.
I was also extremely excited to here it will be shown in WI and IL , totally with in Driving a couple hours driving distance and not have to deal with the traffic and crowds in Chicago. Now if only the movie release was that close.
Thanks for the comment and welcome. Yeah, I have a friend in Chicago who I think might have hosted me, but not driving around unfamiliar places in bad weather is always a plus. Now we can relax!
Yeah! I’m always in the Milwaukee area anyway that time of year.
I’m going to have to figure out my game plan now, lol.
I have already thought this out…I have some research to do that requires the UWM library, so I can easily get out of hometown no questions asked
Obviously I cannot work the whole time in will have to find something to occupy my free time…what will I do?
Hmm. I like that “research” is such a broad umbrella, and then one does have to take “breaks”.
Precisely! My work schedule has been heinous this semester, and my family (G-d knows why, with my general attitude lately) is clingy. Leisure trips they don’t get…research trips – even my parents will facilitate those
– they don’t need to know exactly WHAT I’m researching!
Are they clingy, because they sense your mood?
I’m all for research. I especially like beer research.
Probably…but the more they cling, the more I want to pull back – vicious cycle – this too shall pass, I’m sure.
RE: beer research – did you know that there is a micro brewery only 15 minutes from the Marcus Theater in Mequon? Let me know if you need an RA
I did *not* know that
Hmm, RA or an RA?
I noticed that after I hit send
I can’t promise to deliver RA, but I am an experienced beer RA
This is the third main meaning of the acronym “RA” for me — I wrote posts about “Resident Assistant” and “Rheumatoid Arthritis,” but I never finished this one. Maybe time
I would imagine that RA would be an entertaining RA at a Wisconsin micro brewery. It can be an experience…the last time I was at New Glarus, there were at least five couples pushing babies in strollers around the outdoor tasting room..a little family outing Wisconsin style
Gotta love it!

Lucky all you in the southern part of Wisconsin, to be able to the the Hobbit at 48 fps close by. Nothing in the great Up North or even Minnesota. But I don’t think I would travel to the Twin Cities to see it, because knowing how bad a person can get lost there, I would find the theater as the show was getting over. Our little cinema just got 3D in the Spring this year, but if 3D can trigger a migraine I may just stick to 24 fps instead. I have chronic migraines and just got put on new meds to try and help me out. Maybe they will work by December, that would be good.
I find the Cities confusing, too — which is funny because I don’t hesitate to drive into Chicago. Stay away from migraines!
I find this really interesting – I’ve never been to the Twin Cities, but I just looked at a satellite map and can see why people would get confused. There seems to be an orthogonal grid in place, but the way the river snakes through it could lead one back and forth across it several times along one route, which could be disorienting. By contrast, the rivers in Chicago run N/S or E/W along the city grid. Don’t get me started on Philadelphia or Boston – I don’t hesitate to drive most places, but I give careful thought to public trans. in either of these
Great research. It’s somewhat substantiated by my feeling that driving through Chicago is only confusing when you get on the expressways — which are rounded
It’s very scientific
The rounded gets me every time.. I love Boston if I don’t have to drive there – all of that round the common makes me insane (I have a problem getting out of the center of Madison too.) It’s usually, “There’s the Capital again” at least three times before I get off the ride. Chicago…no problem, once I’m off the Loop
you have to live in Madison to really understand that — it’s round the capital and through the isthmus …
It now makes sense to me why so many people here are imploding about all the new traffic circles
Interesting comment. I listened to that all summer as one was being installed about 3/4 mi from my parents’ house. I actually think they are a good idea (and that that was a particular good place for one), but people were opposed.
My main problem with it was that it cut off the two easiest routes to the hospital / doctors / chemo suite. We were driving 2 mi out of our way several times a week.
I have no problem with them at all – the accident statistics don’t lie. I cut my teeth on the 4 lane ones in Athens, so these are child’s play. Everyone just needs to put on their grown up pants and learn to use them. Was it just the construction that made it a hassle? That has been an ongoing gripe for people since they’re being installed on critical intersections.
Yeah. It’s finished now (opened the week I left town) and so the drivin around is now over.
There have been four traffic accidents in that township since I left that have shown up in my FB feed, and someone always, always asks, did it happen at the traffic circle?
did any of them? (I’m going to guess no)
not afaik.
