Kind of neat — People’s Choice recognizes TDOS

Normally I don’t post on awards and competitions for reasons I’ve explained often enough in the past, but this news is neat — a new People’s Choice awards category, favorite end of year film, and The Desolation of Smaug is included in this year’s nominees.

I don’t think they have a chance in hell, up against two other extremely popular movies, but it’s cool!

  1. Well they have my vote. I agree it isn’t likely but we can only try.

  2. Hey, you never know! It’s beating all the others in box office!!

    • I don’t think that’s true (yet). Catching Fire has grossed an estimated $377M and Frozen has done over $200M domestic. TDOS is at around $149 domestic box office. Obviously the other films have been out longer, so we’ll see, but I suspect this film isn’t going to be the big winner of the year.

  3. Oh, sorry Mr. A, a magically hilarious snowman and Katniss Everdeen? Even the hot dwarf triumvirate hasn’t a chance…unless the army has infiltrated the vote counters? Do they have a Special Branch?

    • there used to be a special branch in charge of this kind of thing but as the years have passed they have mellowed.

      • SOL then, for sure. Better luck next time, they like all that honorable dying crap…you know, the parts of the book he actually WON’T change. No, it doesn’t bother me that Fili, Kili and Thorin die…needlessly. I know he’s going to kill Tauriel too…yes, I don’t understand it all either. But award shows love that angsty stuff. Don’t they?

  4. If awards shows like dying crap, then they will love the last installment, I expect a crying fest the likes of which we haven’t seen since Titanic. And that film won a fair amount of hardware.
