Pockets and hips
Another detail I noticed and enjoyed recently:

I assume these are the trousers from his regimental dress uniform. Can I say I really like these pants? I don’t dislike Mr. Armitage in jeans, but there’s a reason that women like a man in uniform and I think these slacks point it out. The near verticaltiry of the slash and its tightness to the waist of the garment is an additional visual element that slims Mr. Armitage’s hips. (Jeans show us the precise outline of everything, but that also means the precise outline of Armitage’s generous posterior.) I feel like these slacks pull in all the right places, underlining the straight line of his silhouette and the musculature of his thighs without precisely defining them for us.

The seated view of the garment above is also alluring, I find, and it appears to allow a great range of motion.

Honey, I’ve been loving a man in uniform for ages. I thought my dad looked a treat in the photos of him in his MP uni from WW II. I recall how dazzled I was by Benny in his mess dress for our wedding (even if he did say he looked like a waiter LOL) There is something in particular about a tall, broad-shouldered and slim-hipped man in a well-fitting uniform I find really attractive.
Those pants (or trousers, for the English girls) look dandy on Mr. A, I agree. I also adore this particular scene with him on the bed with young Alex; the way he has to sort of fold up those really long legs of his to fit is really endearing.
NOT, I should add, that I find him at all objectionable in his snug jeans, either. It is ALL good. 😉

This is one supporter who would miss the Lucas Jeans in off-camera life. Who wouldn’t? BUT, the military trousers add a visual maturity which is appropriate to the Porter character. We’re not playing spy games or leather-clad deranged henchman here. Porter is a very serious character.

Mr. Armitage has expressed concerns about his fashion sense, and I actually think this trouser look is quite a nice one on him. It’s not the most up to date, but it would be suitable for almost any occasion.

Although Porter has adopted colourful Hawaiian shirts, shorts and the heavily stubbled look for his honeymoon trip. “When in Rome . . .” He’s a fun guy when in the right situations. 😀

Guy says to tell you he’s been studying very hard during his free time (in between visits with the various fanfic writers) and is coming along very nicely in his reading and writing skills. Some may scoff at the idea of the Medieval Menace penning his own blog . . . Guy just folds his sturdy arms across his broad chest, clad in his Floppy Pirate’s Shirt, and leans back against the wall, one booted and spurred foot crossed over the other, Marvel of Engineering trousers taut across those muscular thighs . . . raising one dark, sardonic brow, he smirks.
“Au contraire, mes soeurs . . .”
Can’t seem to get Guy out of my mind, either, Fitzg. Or my den . . . but then, I really don’t think I want to . . .

I always make sure dear Guy has the readies as far as necessary funds before I send him out, Ann Marie. Of course, he is more accustomeed to taking money than giving it out, but he’s learning.

I don’t think jeans suit him very well. They just look … wrong, somehow. These trousers look a lot better on him. 🙂 (And there’s my shallow thought of the day, haha!)

@Traxt. I love him in jeans as they accentuate his slim hips and long shapely legs but I have to say that I think he looks stunning in these pants!! They fit so beautifully and absolutely look like they were made for him.
@Servetus Thank you so much for this posting! I found these scenes particularly moving and for various reasons. You see the temptation of the bottle of alcohol, his wife’s obvious intolerant attitude to him leaving the army and the tender scene with his daughter. Loved the way he said “Budge up” so that there is room for his long frame to join her on the bed! So moving!!
To top it all was how he was dressed. It blew me away how good he looked in the uniform and particularly the shirt and dress pants as shown here. They really did show off his beautiful body to perfection!! *Sigh*!!

It’s heresy to admit this, but he doesn’t really have the right build for most jeans. Generous rear and thighs mean that it’s going to be really hard to find a jean in an easily available style where his shins look normal or that don’t have to be altered for overall length, which in my opinion usually looks dorky. I like him in jeans, and I won’t deny I like to see the posterior and thighs outlined, but they’re never going to look elegant on him.
The issue with the style of this pant is that, being practically timeless, it’s also boring / not stylish. It makes anyone who wears it look older and serious. 🙂

Jeans don’t look elegant but they sure do look sexy on him, IMHO and I hope he never gives them up. I was enjoying watching him lope over to his chair at the press conference (sadly, some of the video stuff has been taken down by YouTube, spoiling our fun 😦 However, that one is still up :D)
So Mr. A can look elegant and sophisticated and timeless when he needs to, and like sex on legs when he needs to . . . a win-win situation!!

Having had very limited VIEWS of his “rear” – those sans clothing that is – as I have not seen BTS only Spooks and SB so I find I can’t entirely agree with the “generous” description as to my mind that equates with “overlarge”. Both rear and thighs and the length of his legs just add to his overall appeal for me. I love seeing him run for example and while I agree that jeans may not be the most elegant thing he wears, he does look incredibly sexy in them and I’m happy to enjoy that view any time.

well, he doesn’t have a flat butt. It’s there, and it affects his clothing choices (esp when he’s wearing a jacket that covers it). It wasn’t a criticism — it’s just a polite way to say “not small.” 🙂

Actually, one of the (many) things I loved about his RH S3 outfit was the way the jacket sort of further accentuated the, shall we say, lushness of his posterior. What fun that costume designer must have had creating his duds . . .

@servetus I apologize. I never meant to sound so defensive which I must say is the way it came over when I re-read what I had written. I really shouldn’t post comments on the spur of the moment but should stop and think about it first!! I agree 100% that he is NOT flat-butted and I’m happy for that too! I always like his “rear view” as it were and probably was in my “motherly” over-protective mode!! As you know I actually am old enough to assume that role!! GOT to remember I have reversed my real age in my mind so I can start thinking of myself as younger than him. The trouble is, it only works until I look in the mirror:((

I find your unabashed adoration and protectiveness of the Dear Boy very endearing and I am pretty sure Dr. S understood where you were coming from. Mr. A’s posterior is certainly not overly-large; but it’s hard to describe without using words like ample or lush or generous. It’s an unusual posterior for a man, actually–but I certainly do like it. 😉 Undoubtedly, though, it is a bit of a problem when tailoring certain clothes . . . because of its unconventionality.

I think he looks best in jeans when he’s wearing the Belstaff jackets, especially the one from Spooks 9, with them. The cut of the shoulders emphasises their width and create a nice balance for his rear. 🙂

Ladies, pants are swell, but the boy stuff under the pants is what gets me melting.

I have an old photo of my Daddy at 16 with his first buck. He is wearing his uncle’s WWI uniform (couldn’t afford anything but hand-me-downs). The pants are wide through the hips and very narrow legs (jodhpurs?). He looks absolutely marvelous. No wonder the girls were crazy for him. Do they make uniforms so tantalizing so the boys make babies before they are shot?

There is a photo out there somewhere of Richard in a kilt from quite an old photoshoot with some other actors including Mackenzie Crook. Anybody know where to find that? I recall reading that Richard wasn’t overly impressed by the experience!

Although he can pull off a kilt just fine, having the lovely legs for it. That was a sort of wierd photo shoot anyway . . . but I do like the photos of him sitting backward in the chair looking very pensive from that shoot.

Another part of the uniform that makes me smile is the greatcoat. My husband was in the Navy in the Vietnam War. I lived in Harrisburg then (a much different and better place than it is today). He would come by train from NYC to visit. I remember seeing him walking to my apartment and passing under street lamps. It was winter and he wore his navy greatcoat. His golden hair glinted in the soft lights and the snow on his lapels was delicious. gasp

Isn’t it marvellous how delicate and yet strong his features are? I liked the beard when I first saw the photos of the Hobbit press conference, but now I am not so sure anymore. His body is similar delicate features (wrists, fingers) alternate with surprisingly strong ones (thighs, shoulders, biceps). As for the trousers – maybe his posterior, which I think is rather typical for a dancer and skier, isn’t that generous after all? 😉

On the generous question: I have to able to use words to describe things I see and words don’t really have essential meanings — language only works in context. I want to say not that his posterior is abnormal or ugly or anything negative — but it (and his thighs) are larger than the average jean is cut for. This ultimately has consequences for jean length and fit. Of course his daily activities affect the size and proportions of his body. There’s nothing wrong with pointing this out and describing it accurately. That’s the basis of analysis 🙂

You have completely won me over Servetus. After giving it a good deal of thought, (tough – but I just had to do it) “generous” is the BEST word you could use and you are absolutely right. His posterior and his thighs are as you said, hence how tight lots of jeans look on him. That is NOT a complaint by the way;)
