YES! You nailed it. I love left-handedness. Don’t know why I find it so sexy. But you know, as I said on another post – you can trick your mind and imagine him left-handed when he throws the grenades so deftly with his left hand on his escape from the Sharq compound.

I’m a lefty so I always tune in on other lefties. I am very proud to be a part of this minority for some reason. But I wouldn’t be all that surprised to discover he is somewhat ambidextrous. *sigh*
And he helps me like the character lines in my face better. I take good care of my skin, as I believe he must do also to have such excellent skin at near 40. I would never want to have a frozen face. I know someone who does and it’s very jarring.

RA mentioned in an interview that he moisturizes his skin/face otherwise he’ll gonna have a skin “breakout” or something for quite sometime. Is “metro sexual guy” the term for this?

Remember that he plaid the cello and flute. His left hand has been very well trained to get enough velocity, strenght and precision in the fingers and wrist to create the notes on those instruments. And from my own experience, once you did get such training, it still remains, even if you don’t practice anymore.
So you might very well imagine him be some how ambidextre.

He comes across as at least slightly ambidextrous. His characters quite often point with their left hands, something I can’t imagine myself doing!

I’m a lefty myself and always cheer when I come across another, but RA – I don’t think so. In George Gently he played a left handed character and had to use a hammer with his left hand, not a nice sight!

And I love that scene – actually I love the interplay through this episode with Gerry and their bromance. What is so shocking is how it moves from this shot and his glorious, full-throated laughter, to the other extreme a nano-second later… (Should I assume everyone has seen SB or do we have to be careful of spoilers?)

I loved the interplay between him and Gerry too calexora! I think they bounced wonderfully off eachother and I loved the various slick references to Scottish things during their verbal sparring, e.g. “Tartan Taliban”, calling Gerry “Braveheart” and later Gerry’s shouted admission that he was actually from “Cowdenbeath”!! (In RL of course, Ewen is from Edinburgh, 16 miles to the south of there!)
I’m with all of you of course and say to him, “Dear Mr. A, Please don’t even THINK about changing how you look. We adore each and every crinkle, so keep on laughing and add to them!!”
As for him being left-handed – you surely can’t have forgotten how well he can use BOTH hands when it comes to kissing for example? Maybe he is ambidextrous?? Nice thought eh ladies????

Oh I love the John/Tom and Gerry ‘ bromance ‘. The comedy, the emotional depth as they get to know each other better.
And I’m proud be be a leftie too. Vivid imagination, stronger on the right brain than the left, an inclination towards clumsiness.

Oh that lunimous skin! The crows’ feet. Fine to have had the teeth fixed, makes for healthier teeth, too. (yeesh, I’m tiresomely practical). But no botox ever (isn’t healthy, and restricts facial expression.) No lipo, either. Love the chin au naturel.

Am I alone in finding the teeth slightly alarming sometimes? Objectively they’re lovely, but sometimes they actively distract me from the scene (e.g. Spooks 7.1 – Lucas wasn’t given a change of clothes in eight years, but at least he had a dental plan).
Totally agree about the botox, though. We would all be bereft without the eye crinkles and brow furrows. And when you go bald, please, please just be bald!

Not alone about the teeth, CP! I liked his quirky original teeth, but then, being English, I grew up around extremely quirky teeth. Norwegian children all seem to get braces as a matter of course, so everyone here seems to have the bright, straight, slightly huge teeth I’ve always thought of as Hollywood American.

yeah, my only serious problem with 7.1 was Lucas’s teeth. And you know, they could have masked them — but somehow didn’t. I have never been very impressed with Spooks continuity anyway.

Actually, CP, I think I’ve rationalised the tooth work on the basis of dental health. There were earlier photos before the dentistry, and the large eye teeth were endearing.
Just very grateful nothing persuaded the actor, in the end, to interfere with the Plantagenet nose.
He would be as fine with grey hair, balding, as those factors leave the bone structure, with the fine, fair skin stretched over. Even a small softening in the tummy (probably not going to happen) wouldn’t be distracting.

The touches of grey hair for Monet just seemed to enhance the eyes even more. And he has the bones to carry off baldness, too. Can’t say I think Jonas will fare as well. Oh, heavens, I’d still fancy him like mad even with love handles, quite frankly. And no, no, pleased don’t touch that little bit of flesh under the chin. I dearly love it.

He’d look good even balding. Look at Prince Philip – almost 90 now, with thin hair, but he has great bone structure like Richard and is still a very handsome man.

We all agree that his natural face is worth a million, and thankfully he didn’t touch his beatifull nose.
On the aging part, I also tried to imagine him with some grey hairs and deeper lines around the eyes, …can I say he would be stunning?

Absolutely, my dear!! And the analogy to good wine is perfect in his case. Not many men (or women) get MORE beautiful as they mature but IMO he has. Just think how the touch of grey will emphasize those already gorgeous eyes even more!!

I keep resolving to abandon the temptation this man brings in the form of checking web-sites, watching vids and reading fan fic, and devote myself to the rigorous demands of RL, especially as it’s relatively quiet on the Richard front before CA and TH, but no, I keep craving and returning for more!

Do you know I resolve the same thing almost every morning, but then find that I can hardly wait to shower and dress before switching on my computer and doing it all over again as I eat breakfast. I would be ashamed to admit just how much time I spend each day doing exactly what you have just described!!! Oh yes! Goose well and truly cooked!!

@Tedgirl, from a few comments ago: Metroman; I’d rather not put RA in that category! Actors of that “ilk” are not necessarily respected for their acting craft. This just a personal perception; I think that Mr. A, with all his experience of camera/lights, has an appreciation for visual effect. And that he will expend the effort to do what he considers necessary for the best camera and role results. Just my view…
Thank heaven for no other “work” being done. Piers Morgan had Robert Redford as guest last evening. There were groans in the past about Redford losing his looks in middle age. I thought he looked wonderful, comfortable with his age – let the BP’s out there have “work” done to shore up their pedestrian looks and pedestrian talents…(sorry, that is really snarky; but I mean it)…

Actually, to clarify, tedgirl and fitzg, I believe Richard said he had some trouble with psoriasis (something we have in common!) and so had to moisturize a lot, which was his only metrosexual trait (his own words to that effect) so he doesn’t categorize himself as truly “metrosexual” (obsessed with grooming and appearance to an almost feminine extreme) and I certainly wouldn’t, either.
He doesn’t strike me as at all vain, just aware that he does have to “keep things up” as part of being the most viable in his career field.
I love Robert Redford. Yes, he is weathered, but still beautiful to me (again, those bones . . .) He also does not strike me as a particularly vain kind of guy, and gosh, hasn’t he proved himself much more than a pretty face! It’s sad how many people have all sorts of plastic surgery trying to get a career started or jump-start a faltering one. It usually does not work IMHO. And I agree with your snarkiness, Fitzg.

I agree too Fitzg and Angie. Nothing I dislike more than to see an actor who was promising, was doing interesting roles, cave in, get plastified and basically sell their souls in a vain effort to win roles. That’s usually when their careers start to tank. And also, they all start looking alike…what made them stand out initially gets re-molded into a ‘stefford wife’ syndrome.
I think Mr. A has his head screwed on straight and will opt to stay real and unique. Of course, he does his best to fit the roles he plays but he has the perfect features to grow older in beauty, grace and get even sexier than he is now. I already find him more sexy and gorgeous at 39 than when he was in his early thirties. He’s like a good wine…only gets better with age.

I don’t mean to demean RA when I mentioned metro something. It’s just in the context of using moisturizer. Didn’t brand him as one. Used the word as a question not knowing the exact meaning or the connotation that goes with the it. LOL

The metro- has had connotations with regard to masculinity or vanity. But I see nothing at all wrong with the use of moistureriser for anyone. (Or Guyliner, either, for that role 😀 )

I just finished watching Strikeback. I’m late to the game, but still felt compelled to comment 🙂 I bought the Blue Ray even though there was a chance it would not play, When it didn’t, I got my husband to figure out a way to get it to play. Poor man. I made him enable my addiction further, lol. But what was nice was that, he ended up watching and enjoying it too, albeit for different reasons 😉 I actually loved the 3rd story the best because of the humor brought on by the bromance. I think there were some scenes where RA could not help himself from laughing. And did anyone think that there was allusion to the comic/cartoon “Tom and Jerry” when they chose the names “Tom and Gerry”? Coincidence? Maybe…
