In the continuing search for the perfect format in which to view Mr. Armitage, here are few caps made from an HDTV file of Robin Hood 3.2:

Sir Guy can swash his buckle any old time he likes as far as I’m concerned. Yuuum, indeed! Love the boots and the clink of the spurs when he walks. And the pirate shirt. And the HAIR.
(It is funny watching Game of Thrones and seeing Harry Lloyd with his platinum blonde S3 length Guy locks . . . of course, it is a wig in his case. And his nasty character is a far cry from sweet Will Scarlett!)

I echo you comment, Servetus, about “the swashbuckling that makes it looks almost like a dance.” I think RA views all movement/action as choreography because it is so natural from his dancing background. I just re-watched the extra on Spooks S7 of the chase in Ep 7.6 and the stunt co-ordinator talks about RA having to “dance the shape” of a fight sequence. Particularly pertinent words for our hero.
I also think his dance background is what makes him such a controlled and precise actor physically. To be a good dancer you have to be totally aware of how your body and movements appear at all times even though you are getting limited visual corrobation.

@Rob…you started my day with a LOL! The “dance the shape” was most apparent to me in Strike Back…so many scenes where the movements were so graceful/smooth/patterned. Many of the fanvids capture those movements which are aceented by music. I’ve never seen that in an actor’s performance before. Or maybe I just didn’t notice it, but by golly, Mr. RA makes one sit up and take notice. Can’t wait to see how he dances the shape in TH!

@NovemberBride. SB is where it was most apparent to me also. “Dance the shape” is a wonderful description and even when he comes running out firing an automatic weapon there is elegance of movement and body control there that is stunning to watch. It gave me an extra thrill to see him do it even in such an action-packed series as SB. I love when all you talented people make these great videos, slide shows, screen-caps etc and I can see all these movements in great detail – not that I really need an excuse to do that! It is so pleasurable! 😀 And the things he can do with that long hair 😉 I wonder as a very young man if he ever “used” his hair in any role when it was naturally long? If not he sure knew how to in RH!!

The man is a master of the art of Hair Acting. Shame, despair, self-loeathing, pride, arrogance, anger, uncertainty–he could say it all with flicks and tosses of that magnificent mane in S3. I wonder, too, if he developed his techniques early on or just added to his repertoire for RH?

Another way for him to intrigue us, perhaps, Angie? He is the master of so many things as well as being “masterful”. He..is..so,…………..well you know! I think we run out of superlatives when it comes to Richard Armitage!

@NovemberBride I also noticed his dancer stance at the Powhiri ceremony when he is giving the address. Even if I hadn’t known of his dance training, I would have thought it was the stance of a trained dancer.

Oh wow, Pam! You are right. I was thinking he stood like we were taught in choir to steady ourselves for a concert. But, errrr, ummmmm, well we didn’t quite look like that. You know…regal/distinguished…all 6’2″ of pure Thorin/Buy/JT/JP/JS/JB….lots of J’s there huh?

I enjoy your foot/shoe fixation. I sometimes rewind multiple times to get a better look at the hands, which are sublime.
(Lucky Pam to have the Spooks extras. I only watch it on Netflix.)

Something else that amazes me about Richard is the fact he is a big man with large feet and long limbs, and yet manages to be so graceful in his movements. The gangly youth who was all nose, legs and arms really did turn into a swan.

Something that’s interesting about this photo (and I noticed this in the Hobbit fight rehearsal caps to) is how close the ground he can move his center of gravity. For such a tall man that’s really impressive.

I continue to marvel at the big shoulders (even when he’s thin) contrasted with the slim wrists and torso.
The extreme body control and gracefulness make it difficult to believe he was ever pigeon-toed. And yet, there is always the hint of almost gawkiness, always controlled.

S3 GIZZY! My fave of the Gizzies. Nice pics… I especially like the 3rd one down. I’m feeling the itch to have a S3 rewatch now. 🙂
