Just can’t get enough

Just a really long day and I’m really tired. Finished lectures for my first class tonight but I am bushed. Richard Armitage, looking at pictures of you gives me the energy to go home satisfied …

This another one of those “goo goo goo goo” posts. I’m just so tired, and I don’t have time to edit any real writing for publication because my brain is just shot. Too much stuff poured into it — today I had to discuss the structural problems with absolutist governance in the afternoon and then explain all five theories of the emergence of religious toleration in Europe in the evening and do the usual administrative and teaching stuff in between — nothing unusual in terms of a typical day here, but still, all there’s room for in my brain any more tonight is “goo goo goo goo.”

On the other hand, it’s such a good “goo goo goo goo.” It makes me feel so good.

Richard Armitage, you make me so happy. Thank you. Maybe it’s enough to say that.

It’s that time of year again: a point at which we think about the needs of others in the midst of gratitude for the gifts we have received. Here’s a link to Mr. Armitage’s recommended charities at JustGiving and a link to Act!onAid, a child sponsorship organization for which he recorded a voiceover in December 2010. In 2011, Mr. Armitage also participated in fundraising efforts for Christchurch Earthquake Appeal. You can also generate a donation by doing any amazon.co.uk or Book Depository shopping that you do for the holidays via RichardArmitageOnline.com, or amazon.com or amazon.co.uk shopping via RichardArmitageNet.com, as these fansites both donate earned commission to charities that Armitage has endorsed. Fans have also donated in honor of Armitage to Oxfam International.

  1. Hope you get some good rest tonight, Servetus.

The world is a better place with Richard Armitage in it. And he just keeps getting bettah. 😀

  2. Even a little bit of Armitage goes a long way towards making one feel good!! 🙂

When I first saw those new pics (like the first one here) I thought how young he looks in many of them, considering they were taken only 3 years ago. Then in others he looks quite different, especially around the eyes. Can’t put my finger on it. Is it just me? Since they would have been taken around Spooks S1, he’d lost weight, so that may have some bearing. Certainly there is very little of Lucas there, what an amazing job he does keeping the chaRActer and Richard separate. Great choice with that first pic, I love the ones where he is smiling, he looks so relaxed and natural. This one’s a beauty too! 🙂

    • Mezz,

I put the difference in appearance down to three things primarily:
      1) As you mentioned, these would have been shot in the timeframe of extra-lean S7 Lucas. So, he weighs less. Gives him a more vulnerable look. IMHO..

      2) No beard or stubble. Richard always tends to look younger without any facial hair, I think.

      3) Makeup and/or Photoshop–I think, as in his United Agents photo, the photographer has removed some of his familiar crinkles around those baby blues with touch-ups.
Anyway, there are plenty of dandy photos of our favorite actor to peruse. 😀

  3. @Mezz. Isn’t he just adorable in that pic! Love that boyish big grin!! 😀 I thought he looked very thin then I realized that 2008 was the year of Spooks 7 so these were possibly taken before he started to put back the 14lbs or so that he had lost to play the emaciated Lucas. I think I prefer him more muscled – if I can be so shallow!! 🙂

    • I loved his Guy S2 physique (I didn’t get to see enough of said physique in S3, but I must say he filled out that new costume admirably) . . . muscular and toned but not overdone.

      • Not sure of the logistics of the time frame, but it would have been difficult balancing the emaciated look he needed for Lucas, while still maintaining his physique and strength for Guy. The shallow part of me would have liked to see more of his S3 physique too, but oh boy, that costume suited him!! He looked magnificent.

        • Every time i saw S3 Guy in profile in his Milanese couture 😉 I couldn’t fail to appreciate how those Marvel of Engineering Trousers and the cut of his jacket accentuated the perfection of those peaches. Then, of course, there were the glorious thighs and those broad shoulders . . . and the peekaboo tie at the throat of his Floppy Pirate Shirt. *sigh*

What little we saw of him with his shirt off in that nightmare scene, he looked lean but very ripped. Washboard abs. Not that i repeatedly watched that scene or anything *whistles innocently*

  5. Oops, failed to proof read, glad you knew I meant Spooks S7!! 😉

angie, I agree with you, but even taking all that into account I was still surprised at just how young he did look compared with other 2008 pics. Don’t get me wrong, the photos from that shoot are fabulous.
Why, oh why would a photographer feel the need to photoshop Richard? Fiddling with that beautiful face is so unnecessary, we love him crinkles and all!!

Teuchter, I prefer to see Richard carrying more weight, and if it’s as muscle, I’m not complaining!! 😉

    • I agree, Mezz, I like his face just fine au naturel. But airbrushing of photos is an industry standard, even amongst those who are very attractive and camera-ready in the first place. Look at the cover of just about any fashion magazine and the layouts within and I guarantee you they have been touched up. I remember Richard saying on the Spooks set once he just wished they would let his hair get disheveled and his wrinkles show, but no, they kept coming back and touching things up. 😉

Looking at the photos again, it seems to me some of the photos almost look intentionally overexposed. That in turn would tend to reduce the appearance of some of the “imperfections.”

  6. Oops!!! If I would take the time to read every word of ALL the other comments before I comment myself, I wouldn’t repeat what others have already said! Sorry about that!

Like the others I really don’t see any reason to photoshop him. We love every line, crinkle, mole and blemish. That is what makes him unique (among other things of course!!)

I find him totally stunning in the latest photoshoots – and so very very MALE!! And that is not counting our favourite Alpha Dwarf!! 😉 Sigh!!

    • Teuchter, when you’re jostling for slots here as we are at the moment, comments get crossed and we’re bound to repeat things!!! LOL

PS I’m having a hard time trying to choose one of the latest pics for my desktop background…mmmm…maybe a smiley one! 🙂

  7. I think it is mostly his expression that makes him look much younger in some pics. Surely weight, make up, facial hair and photoshop play a part, but what is most striking, and most endearing, is the expression he almost never has in his roles. The second picture for example is clearly him posing as Lucas (and the recent photoshots are very posed as well) and in the Maori ceremony he is “in character” as well but in the others he is just Richard.

    • Good point, Jane. I think that is the same “real Richard” quality we like so much when he’s caught in behind the scenes photos. Even in some interviews–the one he did for RH S3–he is in his Guy hair and costume, but I can look at a still and instantly know it’s Richard speaking and not Guy. I think that is also why things didn’t seem quite right when he did the RH promo in his costume for Lala TV in Japan.

It was sort of like Harry Kennedy had stuck on a wig and donned fancy dress. 🙂 But I always love seeing those ” Richard smiles.”

      • I love his expression in candids like those autograph signing pics with the hat or in the webcam material from a radio interview. Or him joking around with Spooks castmates. I remember once reading what someone who saw the N&S DVD interview said, as I couldn’t put it better: He looks like a student in his late twenties and you just want to ruffle his hair and kiss him.

        Like

        • Oh, yes, indeed. The last time I watched N&S and his interview, I was so struck with how boyish and disarming he seemed. I wanted to pinch those cheeks when he smiled. It makes his transformation into the respected Victorian mill owner with so much on his shoulders from an early age all the more impressive onscreen.

One of my favorites from Spooks is when he and some of the crew are all biting into sandwiches. You see the playfulness there.

            • You just find yourself thinking, “He’s got to be a nice guy.” The lines on his face demonstrate he is a man who has laughed and smiled a lot over the year. Those smiles are reflected in his beautiful eyes.

He has said himself he is generally a cheerful person, and likens his own personality to be the most like Harry Kennedy. How can you NOT love him?

      • It makes a nice change to see some smiley pics of Richard after the serious ones of the project photo shoot.

Jane, you’re right, his expression does play a big part, but also the clothes he wears have an effect too. IMO he looks older in the red cardigan, collar and tie, than in those with the blue vee neck jumper (love the way that brings out the blue in his eyes! 🙂 )

Angie, the demarcation between “real Richard” and his character shows just how fully he inhabits a character in front of the camera, to the point where we actually can tell who it is merely from a still. That and our RAdar!! 😉

        • Mezz,

We had a much-loved children’s program on public TV for many years called “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood.” He was this sweet, kindly, soft-spoken man who always slipped into a cardigan as he sang a little song to start each episode. RA in the cardigan and tie reminds me of a sexy Mr. Rogers!:D

“Yes, I’ll be, yes I’ll be, yes I will be your neighbor, Mr. Armitage!!”
He looks heavenly in blue. Just heavenly. *sigh*

He is amazing in his gift for crafting each character to have its own specific identity that shows up even in screencaps and publicity stills. I can look at a photo of Lucas in street clothes and John Porter in street clothes with similar hair cuts and know immediately who is who.

Isn’t it marvellous what a few pics of RA on a “goo goo” post can lead to? When it comes to Richard, you don’t need much to get us going servetus! 🙂

  9. I love that last pic of the ceremony in NZ. The guy on the left (white shirt with really unattractive black pattern) seems to be saying “Dude, you do that Maori talk really good. ” And of course RA looks hot, as he does in all these pics. So much perfection in one man, it boggles the mind

  10. IMO,Richard looks young and somewhat angelic in light blue color and more mature in red. Alan Alda comes to my mind when I stare on Richard in that red cardigan:)
If I may be honest this old photo with necklace makes me feel little nerous;)

  16. […] One of the first things I reflected upon in the search for Richard Armitage in these pictures was that I like seeing photos of him when he’s not looking at the camera. No, not stolen photos of his private life, but rather photos of him standing around when something else is going on. It makes him seem more normal, somehow, and not so much larger than life as he often does when he turns his full wattage at the lens. I’m thinking here in agreement with Jane’s recent comment about candid photos from sets he’s been on. […]
