Has it started yet? Well, I‘m a dragon so that should be my great year. As a kind of birthday gift, can I ask for the man in the pic? *innocent look*

They need to clone this guy, I think.

Wrapping isn‘t necessary. X-)

But then you could un-wrap!!!!! That would be fun.

Ok. You are absolutely right. 😉 More fun, much better.

Ah, but if the gift is not wrapped, the recipient is denied the pleasure of unwrapping….and that would be a shame. Truly.

It’s also my understand that something about the fact that the gift is wrapped in red specifically is important to the holiday. (Not sure what.) But lunar new year gifts are *always* wrapped in red.

Red is traditionally a colour synbolic of good fortune and good luck. Money given in red envelopes will increase. In the case of the pictured gift, the red wrapping is most propitious, signifying that the gift will benefit the recipient. Of course, we could go with a red tie, a red scarf, or … Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Happy Chinese New Year, indeed!
Year of the Dragon (Smaug?). Oh man, dragons aren’t exactly known for being quiet and peaceful so I’m sure we’re in for a bit of lively action and activity this year!

it’s also the year of the “Black Water Dragon” this year.

OMG sorry but I so don’t like how RA is dressed in this picture! Shirt and tie are good but then the merino-wool style cardigan is so 50& beyond!!
Happy Chinese New Year – now I also understand why our regular Dim Sum place was so packed today!!

red is not really his color. It is, however, the traditional color associated with the lunar new year 🙂

Thanks, Servetus! So clever – the red sweater 🙂 As Asian myself, I love this photo. Sort of makes him the dream man for all cultures, lol…

I’m waiting for him to appear in South Asian wedding garb. Maybe somebody’ll get their photoshop act together.

That shade of red is not his colour. Deeper, blue-based reds could be. Kung key fat choi to our Chinese community – hope that is correct spelling of the transliteration from Cantonese? to English.
It appears that I am a monkey. Monkeys are party people. I’m usually in bed before midnight. 🙂 Sorry, I relate to the Goat in the western zodiac. Apparently, 1971 was the year of the Pig. The pig has rather good characteristics. Do see White Rose blog for further thoughtful info.
