More whites of his eyes

I have a lot of grading to do before tomorrow, so I’m following up with some caps to illustrate Sloan’s comment about Robin Hood 3.9 and Guy’s sclera. Maybe part of it is that he can get his irises right to the limits of the lateral palpebral commissure (see label at right of diagram above).

Guy of Gisborne (Richard Armitage) responds to the news that Isabella’s husband is around, in Robin Hood 3.9. My cap.

Guy of Gisborne (Richard Armitage) responds to Meg’s jibe that he’s shortly to be executed in Robin Hood 3.9. My cap.

Guy of Gisborne (Richard Armitage) tells Meg to suck on her jewelry to alleviate her thirst, in Robin Hood 3.9. My cap.

Guy of Gisborne (Richard Armitage) tells Meg he thought she hated men, in Robin Hood 3.9. My cap.

I’m not sure I’m getting the moments she means, but I think it’s interesting that there’s so relatively little use of the sclera through Robin Hood 3.9, despite the darkness of most of the shots in which Guy appears. It accentuates, as Sloan’s comment implies, his potential cruelty but also his misery.

  1. When I read your first piece about the whites of his eyes, all these images came to mind. But the fourth picture down is the exact image of his panther-like glare. After I thought about it awhile longer, I realized that yes he does have the look of a panther but more than that, he embodies the image of a caged animal.
