If Richard Armitage fell in love …

[Given that we know nothing specific about the romantic history or current status of the affections of Richard Armitage, please understand this piece as a musing on my part. Picture source.]

If Richard Armitage fell in love with someone …

… let it be someone he can love without ambivalence, without reservation. Whom he can love as if he’s never been hurt. Who can love him back with the same open abandon.

… let it be someone of independent mind with personal goals. Who can operate autonomously. Someone with enough trust to accommodate separations, and enough determination to bridge them.

… let it be someone who appreciates his guffaws and that mischievous vibe that occasionally escapes from the corners of his eyes at serious moments.

… let it be someone who protects his secrets.

… let it be someone who respects his need for space. Who doesn’t mind his mess. Who likes power tools and relishes a little sawdust in the corners.

… let it be someone who will help him figure out his clothes when he needs to look stunning but doesn’t care about them otherwise.

… let it be someone who honors his loyalty to his family.

… let it be someone who loves to dance with him.

… let it be someone who appreciates all of his gifts and can figure out how to live with a character he’s playing.

… let it be someone who’s kissing Richard for Richard and not for John Porter or Lucas North or Mr. Thornton.

… let it be someone who can watch him barrel down the slopes without a catch of fear in the throat. Or ski right along with him.

… let it be someone who sees when he needs reassurance. Who offers it without pressure, condescension, or calculation.

… let it be someone who loves both gentle caresses and forceful passion.

… let it be someone who relishes how he smells. Someone who particularly appreciates his nose.

… let it be someone for whom he’s willing to relax and slow his life down a bit from time to time.

… let it be someone who can learn to smile at his faults.

… let it be someone with whom he can build a shared vision of the future, whatever that holds for both of them.

No small list, that. But this is my version of APM: I only want the best for him. The things that make him happiest. The things that make him grin.

  1. Oh, Servetus, I’m in total agreement with you….

let her/him love Richard for himself

let that person also be proud and happy to share him with his castmates and crew when he’s working and then, later on, with the rest of the world when he helps promote his work

let that person understand and respect his need for privacy

  2. Agree 100%. If he wants to be in a relationship, I hope it’s all these things.

    • there is that πŸ™‚

that’s partially why I started it with “if”. If he doesn’t, I totally get it.

  3. Otherwise known as ‘The Perfect Woman’ lol. Wonderful! Thouroughly enjoyed it..

    • well, no doubt I would write this differently if I were looking at it from the other perspective πŸ™‚

  4. let that person be able to make him laugh but in a wholly natural and unaffected way, not as a contrivance

  5. Aww, so sweet. I also hope he finds someone with all those qualities.
    Here’s what I would add:
Let it be someone who adores him and isn’t afraid to tell him. Often.
Let it be someone who he thinks is exciting and fun to be with, and who likes to do the same stuff he does.

    • and let him be able to accept the adoration πŸ™‚ that would be hard for me, personally.

      • Everyone could benefit from being adored by someone they adore. πŸ™‚ A mutual adoration society!

        • maybe. I personally dislike it. You can adore me as long as you don’t tell me about it. However, how Richard Armitage feels is totally up to Richard Armitage πŸ™‚

  6. I would wish this kind of love for everyone. Especially for my children and for my friends. As for me — I’ve got a great love. Reading your list just made me happy and reminded me of the many things I like about my dh (and no, he’s not perfect).

  7. Awwww!!!

  8. I think this post will collect enough positive energy to send him all that. Well done. Sending mine. πŸ˜‰

  9. Reblogged this on y que iba yo a contar and commented:
Adoro a estas muchachas. Estoy en el mejor grupo the fans del mundo mundial.

  10. I have decided to make a mantra with this post and read it every morning for him, for you, for me and for all the people. Spreading love. Woo-hoo!!!
Thanks for that post, darling. *mwah*

  11. Dear Servetus, this is one of the most beautiful and moving posts I have ever read on any blog.. I had tears in my eyes reading it. Thank you so, so very much. πŸ™‚ Let’s hope RA finds a soulmate to make him happy (if he hasn’t already!)! He deserves it.

  12. Awww! Such posts remind me why I love your blog Servetus! I’d like to suggest:
…let it be someone who appreciates his thoughtfulness.

    • that’s a great addition. I thought about something like “let it be someone who is as kind as he is” but didn’t know how to put it.

      • Then I’m glad I dared to put it here. I hesitated.

        • I don’t think I’ve ever written a post that couldn’t stand a little improvement πŸ™‚

          • That’s good to hear :). I hesitated because I wasn’t sure myself if I’d put this point on the list – I like your points much more. Additionally I wondered if my point isn’t already included somewhere else.

  13. Wouldn’t it be surprising if he returns from NZ and we find out he had met and married someone during his time there?

  14. You probably ticked all the boxes, servetus. Including self-sufficience. A sense of humour would be mandatory, too. πŸ˜€

    • yeah, someone who can live their own life independently of him if necessary while he’s working.

  15. A friend of mine told me today that she has a crush on my ex and asked for my permission to pursue him. It’s a bit ewww (if you need to ask, then you probably shouldn’t be doing it…) and plenty freaky, but I would be OK if they ended up loving each other, just like you described above. That kind of love is the only way I’d be ok with the two of them together. Oh Love, what fools it makes of us all!

    • nice quotation and probably the smartest line in that show.

it is kind of ewww. Hopefully you’re over him enough not to care to much.

  16. That this takes place for each one of us!

  17. A very lovely post, Servetus,
I wish for Richard Armitage every happiness that he wishes for himself.
    Cheers! Grati ;->
P.S. I extend that wish to everyone.

  18. What a wonderful list, Servetus. I hope he finds all that and I wish lots of happy days for them both.
Thank you for this. For a strange reason, your post really makes me happy, as if the listing of all these good and insightful wishes brings RA closer to their fulfillment ;o)

  19. Thanks Servetus, a post like this makes you believe again!
Really wonderful, it only remains to wish you and all the girls the same…

I’m so happy right now πŸ™‚ I cannot stop smiling! πŸ™‚

  20. This post makes my heart happy! This is the kind of love that I would wish for everyone I care about. As Mr. Armitage has brought so much joy to my life, I can’t help but hope he has found or will find such a person.

    • I figured there were multiple ways the message of this post could be understood, and that reading was one of the things I hoped people would get from it.

  21. Truly beautiful thoughts.

  22. Oh, β™₯β™₯β™₯ so sweet.β™₯β™₯β™₯ I wish everyone who seeks true love to find someone who would have all these features.

  23. Oh…how lovely!:)
I will be compelled to love this person. πŸ˜‰

    • you know, I hadn’t thought of it, but obviously if he fell in love with someone like this we’d be spared the need to run that person down for not being worthy of him.

      • We wouldn’t know all those little things, we would judge that person on a much more superficial basis, the closest we would come is determinating if they look happy in pics and if the relationship lasts. I also hope, if he finds such a person, he is all those things for his partner as well, otherwise it would be a little bit unfair.

        • You’re so right, Jane….I think the relationship should be built on mutual respect and benefit both partners. As nice as we think Richard might be, he will need to give as good as he gets!

        • well, that would be a different post, wouldn’t it? πŸ™‚ It could be called: “If Richard Armitage were a great partner, he would …” I don’t think anything I said in this post takes him off the hook; it was a post about choicemaking as an aspect of infatuation. And that we can’t and shouldn’t know a lot of these things doesn’t mean we can’t or shouldn’t wish for them for him.

  24. May be he has already found his perfect love, may be in NZ?

    • No one would be happier than me if that were true πŸ™‚

Well, except him, probably. He would probably be happier than me.

Thanks for the comment and welcome.

  25. AMEN! I hope everyone finds this !!!

  26. I don’t know how I managed to miss this until now. A great list, with lovely additions, so well worth wanting for him, and with slight modifications, for all those capable of loving and being loved. Where there is intention, there is hope.

  27. This is the loveliest blog post ever! πŸ˜€

  28. This is a truly lovely post, and something one hopes for all.

  29. I’m so glad I caught up with this, what a beautiful post, servetus! I second everything you and the others have said. I too want what is best for him and for what makes him happiest.
I truly believe that finding love in NZ would be the best way for it to happen for him…under the radar, so the relationship has been allowed to blossom and grow away from the curious eyes of his fans. There’s been plenty of time for it to happen!

  30. […] “If Richard Armitage fell in love,” June 15, 2012. I like this one a lot, even […]
