Legenda 31: Stuff worth reading

[Legenda offers a brief, non-inclusive index of stuff I noticed and enjoyed since the last episode. It doesn’t usually include materials presented on the major fansites, which I love dearly, but which are linked in the sidebar. Because I always forget or just miss stuff, please add additional pieces of interest via link in the comments.]

It feels lately like there’s more and more to record. The suspense level about The Hobbit is rising among fans despite the frustration with practically no news about Armitage. I know I wanted to finish writing a few things that have been on my mind before the publicity storm for The Hobbit overtook us — because if it’s anything like last July, there will be something to think about and react to nearly every day, and there’ll be little time for longer thoughts. There’s also the ongoing question of how our world will change (and I guess newer fans now will have a taste of what happened when wider circles started to discover their little secret). We’ve asked this question before and my position based on those discussions is: less than we expect on our worst days, but more than we’re comfortable with even on our best ones. I know this is an issue for me, too; I’ve been really excited about meeting totally new fans, but admit that the Hobbit fans have annoyed me substantially more than once. We’ll do our best to be welcoming to new fans, I know!

So here it is.

Fanfic:

• April’s Violet gives us chapter 7 of “Cruelle Splendeur” (Guy of Gisborne; in French).
• “The Saga of Vaenomar” goes to chapter 12. And Vaenomar gets something she wants.
• OT fanfic: Hedgeypig, she of RANet.com and DF, is posting chapters of a book she wrote for a creative writing course on wattpad called “Parliament of One.” Although paranormal stuff is not my thing, it’s another impressive example of Armitage-inspired creativity.

Fandom stuff:

• A fun collaborative challenge from bccmee. This is the cutest one so far, IMO!
• Do you want a “teddy bear” John Standring? Ania does! (English translation at bottom of post).
• How do you feel about Mr. Armitage’s “bashfulness”? I thought about writing a post about this, and probably should have given how many comments I wrote there, and maybe I still will. I’ve been out of the mainstream already with regard to not suffering from the “drought,” and I imagine I am in this regard, too, but while I’d love to read more about him and from him, I guess it comes down to it only being important to me for him to be really famous and omnipresent in the media if it is to him. It turns out that for me, maintaining control over doing it “your way” is really important, even if that makes it harder.
• What do girls say when they get together to talk about Mr. Perfect?
• A new theory of how Richard Armitage is hiding so successfully. And some more evidence. And the best evidence!
• On Guy’s continuing jealousy for Thorin. And yet again.

OT:

• Didion writes about rom-coms we can get behind. Also, on Fathers’ Day, about which I am heavily in synch in terms of the general sentiment with Funky Blue Dandelion, I link Didion’s really great Mothers’ Day post about her mother-in-law. This is simply fantastic writing and thinking.
• Awesome letter from Gene Wilder about how he thought Willy Wonka should be costumed. Totally reminds me of Richard Armitage in terms of attention to detail. Explains in part why I can’t bring myself to watch Johnny Depp in this role.
• One fangirl sin I’ve never committed. Maybe my Armitagemania isn’t so bad?
