Legenda 32: Stuff worth reading
[Legenda offers a brief, non-inclusive index of stuff I noticed and enjoyed since the last episode. It doesn’t usually include materials presented on the major fansites, which I love dearly, but which are linked in the sidebar. Because I always forget or just miss stuff, please add additional pieces of interest via link in the comments.]
The biggest news this week is of course the Armitage sighting in Wellington at Ian McKellen’s theatre benefit. He is alive, he is healthy looking, he seems to have some of his characteristic energy! If you have just crawled out from under a rock, check out a fan report at Frenz’s and make sure you read the comments that evaluate the accuracy of the pictures, as the discussion of what Richard Armitage is really like continues. If blog hits for that rather minor appearance are any indication, we’re all about to encounter a big spike. Fasten seatbelts, everyone.
And the Armitage Watch times have changed slightly.
Lovely Armitage writing:
- IngeD3 reflects on whether the Armitage in
FridaySaturday night’s pictures from Wellington is Thorin or Richard. - Love this graphic, especially the last one. Had Holbein only had Richard Armitage for a subject!
- At Heirs of Durin: If you didn’t get the cleaned up mp3 of “The Misty Mountains.”
- “Richard Armitage will be there, and he’ll need to share a room.” What I love about this: I remember the early days in my professional life when I was attending a conference and the point was to get the hotel room price as low as possible. I remember one conference in particular when I was a grad student and there were five women in one of those two-bed hotel rooms. Including a nursing mother …
- Jazzbaby1’s blogiversary! Give her some love.
- Richard Armitage Friends Network celebrates its first anniversary.
- Pinup confesses her love for tumblr.
- Neat post regarding LOTR music.
- Lucas North & Fish & Chips.
- Sloan recommends this vid of a speed painting of Thorin / Richard Armitage. because of her interest in the process of putting a portrait together.
- Comic: What if Guy & Marian had gotten together?
- I hadn’t seen this caricature of Armitage.
Fanfic:
- Judiang is starting a new story! And it has a mystery man at its core!
- This is just plain wild: Ana Cris comes in with a Lucas North / Blade Runner fic.
- A Phillip Durrant drabble by whatcatydidnext. If you’re not familiar with “drabble,” it’s a very short fanfic, usually 100 words. She also did Epiphanes and Smug Man at a Party, I see.
- C19Jane is posting a “North & South Continuation” called “Fate & Circumstance” at wattpad.
- khandy’s “Birth of a Legend” (Thorin / Hobbit) goes to part four.
- “The Saga of Vaenomar” goes to chapter 13. This has an intense middle bit that I definitely was not anticipating. You are warned.
- OT, but we’ve loved her fanfic, and this is a charming beginning: KathrynRuthD is starting an original story, “Dating and Other Games.”
OT, collateral attractions, and stuff I think about regularly:
- Humorous advice on successful blogging.
- Fantastic post on the consequences of the gradual, impending, probably inevitable abandonment of cursive handwriting instruction in U.S. schools. I spent a lot of time teaching my grad students how to read historic handwritings; I wonder now if I will have to add my own handwriting to that list eventually, and teach students how to decipher Zaner-Bloser?
- Kyle MacLachlan, on being a late bloomer.
As usual am hugely flattered that you’ve included a link to my new story…this time more so as it’s not RA related fanfic, which I may return to at some point. Hoping I won’t be too slow at updating 🙂

LOL! My husband has been quoted in Servetus’ blog . . . and yeah, you can end up with some “strange bedfellows” on those kinds of trips.
I am so glad my husband has a great sense of humor. 😉 As always, thanks for these updates on good stuff in (and outside of) the Armitage blogosphere.
