Thorin behind the scenes

This is a fantastic pic. Via @Merilyn066 at Twitpic and ForeverAidanTurner at FB. I am so completely falling into the hype. I had never anticipated this level of euphoria.

  1. Oh, yumm. I got my Empire mag today thanks to a blog reader 😀 and am mesmerized by that cover. Oh, Thorin, you sexy, sexy beast!! And tomorrow my two latest movie tie-in books should arrive. Oh, I’ve got it BAD.

    • Me, too, but it’s so good to have it this bad.

      • I’m really starting to think it is. I would have been afraid of drawing that conclusion two years ago, but the force of this feeling in my life has been unbelievably productive.

  2. Have you seen Thorin’s FB page (yes, really)? There’s a sharper version there. I’ll give the link a go here.

  5. I think if you feel it, you should swin in the euforia and sink in it 🙂 There’s never going to be a time like this, even with the next films I doubt the emotions will be so strong!

  6. You referred to a gut reaction in the last legenda on seeing the picture of Thorin holding the key. The above picture floored me the first time I saw it, and it continues to affect me like none of the others have. Still trying to work out why.

  7. Is this Thorin or Richard?

    • That may be the “it” I’m trying to figure out, Jane!
In this image, I see Richard concentrating and Thorin surfacing. They’re intertwined, yet separate. Do I see that because he invests so much of himself in his chaRActers?

Or do I see it simply because I’m a fangurl who has it really bad? Who, as Serv said, has completely fallen into the hype?

Bring on the euphoria … and supersize mine, please! 😉

      • I was wondering the same thing, Jane, and Zan – thankyou! That may be my “it” too. We’ve seen Thorin the character and Richard in Thorin’s costume, but as you say, this seems to be an intertwining of the two, and it absolutely fascinates me. *sigh*

        • Usually even with Richard in costume it is easy to tell if he is himself or in character but here it is hard to tell if it is Richard concentrating or Thorin deep in thought. With most of the other character there is probably no big difference, MF was even cast precisely because he already is Bilbo in real life. I noticed that Richard was never allowed to talk to anyone while in costume, the on-set visitors specifically mentioned that he was the only one who was in his own cloths and without make-up.

          • I agree Jane, you only have to look at the stills of Richard in his S3 Guy costume being interviewed to recognise the difference.
It’s been made clearer as time goes on, and seems to be confirmed by that comment about him being the only one not in costume, that there has been a decision to keep the Richard and Thorin personas quite separate. It would be interesting to know whose decision it was; Richard’s, Peter’s, or someone in marketing/publicity.

  10. The thing that is different about this picture is that, even though he is wearing all his Kingly war gear, he is standing still, meditating on their quest and the predicaments they are encountering. Is this vulnerability – the softer side of Thorin which he does not show in the novel until the end – that Richard decided to use and infuse it throughout the trilogy of movies. This, in order to make The King Under The Mountain a more relatable character and not a caricature of the stereotypical curmudgeonly leader. In this picture, Richard fuses his good heart with the nobility of Thorin’s heritage. That is why we are drawn to it, like moths to the light. His greatness shines through! Then again, I love Richard no matter what. 😉

  11. Ever since I watched The Hobbit, I’m having a LOT of trouble concentrating. Richard’s Thorin is just SO HOT… I can’t even…
