In which Richard Armitage, I mean, Thorin, gets a big head
From WETA Workshop on FB; via RichardArmitageNet.com.
For me, this is the point where I officially began to record the perception that the fray is starting to take on ridiculous proportions. I’m amazed that I’ve handled it this long. Wow. Can you imagine being Richard Armitage, seeing that, and not falling over laughing?
[ETA: Grati / RAFN just forwarded this tweet of the other side of the plane.]
Wow is right – makes those Strikeback billboards look passe 🙂

seriously. I expect billboards, somehow. But a plane? I mean, what’s next? Will they do a fireworks show in the form of his face on national holidays?

What was that song? “I’m on a boat, I’m on a “bleeping” boat?”
I can imagine the mirth in Richard’s eyes as he says to himself, “I’m on a plane, I’m on a ‘bleeping’ plane!” It is just–wild.

I absolutely love that he just laughs all of this off. I hope he always does 🙂

In the DVD extras of ROTK, Sean Astin mentions how trippy it was to see his own face on the side of a jet.
And you could see the wonder on their faces when they talked about the parade to the premiere–people on rooftops and balconies, in windows, all waving and cheering. Someone (PJ, maybe?) said they felt like astronauts. It really must be absolutely breathtaking.

we’ll finally have to hire that guy to walk behind him and whisper in his ears that he should remember he’s mortal, like in Roman triumphs.

I’ll do it!! *waving hand* “Memento mori” (I promise that will be all I’ll whisper in his ear while I’m there)

I suspect with your degree, you are the most qualified for this position 🙂

Or as we’d say in America (a reference to ‘Fantasy Island’) – “The plane, boss! THE PLANE!” LOL – but wouldn’t it be fun to hitch a ride on? 🙂 Can’t wait – 21 days to go on this side of the pond . . .

This is a question I’ve been turning over in my mind for awhile — I think his nephew is about 7 now. Is the kind of thing you say on the playground? I think maybe not, if you’re smart.

I can’t help thinking that he might laugh it off outwardly but inside be completely mortified. Or maybe that’s just how I’d feel if it was my face up there…but then I have a massive double chin and really bad skin. Lol! 🙂

Sorry…and thanks. I wasn’t looking for compliments lovely though they are…I’d just hate to see such a big picture of myself anywhere! Are we sure this film shouldn’t just be renamed Thorin? Is “The Hobbit” on the plane at all? 🙂

IIRC, there’s another plane with Martin Freeman and Ian McKellen on it.

Really? I guess that would make sense. The whole world is going Hobbit crazy! 😉

Oh, just checked the news reports and MF and IK are just in a different part of the graphic, that’s all.

They are on the other side and much bigger than Thorin&Co, as they should be.

Here’s what Jed Brophy, the actor who plays the dwarf Nori, said on Facebook in the comments about that very plane: “Im on a plane im on a plane im on a filppin pippen mellon farming plane”

that has to be a sort of astounding recognition.

Why stop at a plane? I bet for the premiere they’ll put his face on the moon!!!!

They’ll have that technology available by the time they film the Silmarillion, I am sure.

Hi Servetus, I’m one of many fans of your blog; but always too shy to say it. Thank you so much for posting the picture. Wonder if he would sound not too excited as he sees the face of the side of the plane as the face of his characters, not really his.

That’s a good point. Maybe that would let him cope.

Apparently that plane is on it’s way to pick up the actors in London and bring them to Wellington for the premier.

I love this! and doesn’t this indicate that the production/ advertising arm(s) of the film is banking on RA’s appeal? I mean, Martin Freeman is great and all, but he’s no RA….

yeah, it’s been apparent for some time that the sales force is devoting as much attention to Armitage as Freeman, which is a bit astounding, but suggests good things about what we’re about to see.
