Armitage ecstasy

As if I weren’t already walking on Cloud Nine today: the only thing that could make the day more perfect, a message from Richard Armitage to fans!

He was thinking of us. Just like we were thinking of him.

  1. I haven’t felt this warm and fuzzy for a very long time…or prouder to consider myself one of his fans 🙂

  2. I have seen this morning Richard’s message on Annette’s site. 🙂

It’s very lovely from Richard to post a message just before the premiere ceremony at Embassy Theatre. 🙂

  3. He has proved so many times how thoughtful he is of others. This has to be a genuine glimpse of the real Richard – his respect and consideration of others is what earns my highest admiration. He’s a fantastic human being. Love that he gave us this gift! It was very, very special to know he was thinking of his supporters. And for him to share a little if what he was feeling….how can we not love this man?!

  4. The man is just too perfect. I am just agog. ps…is it normal to have a post premiere squee hangover?

    • Yup. And this message just clinches it, like the proverbial hair of the dog. I sometimes wonder if Richard can simply feel the tidal wave of love, thousands of souls strong.

      • You know, I’ve often pondered the notion of collective conciousness – I hope so – it would be really amazing to be on the receiving end of that kind of spiritual hug. I can’t think of anyone more deserving 🙂

    • It is, but this post premiere squee hangover is about 100% the size of the one for Captain America. I have no way of comparing this feeling.

      • I was really praying hard for him, so I hope he felt it. All of our prayers and love and good wishes.

            • Hah! You’re too old for this? Just wait. “Tomorrow” is already here and I’m bloody useless, can’t even remember where I put my cell phone, let alone analyze the spreadsheets I’m supposed to evaluate. My kitten reminded me, oh, food…

  8. Tomorrow (or next class) you can ask them, “Were you stunned, asleep, or convinced?” That will usually present a starting point for recovery.

    • The topic today for the first lecture is “Comparative Fiscal Systems, the Developing State Bureaucracy, and the End of Absolutism.” Then we move on to “Anthropological Theories as Explanations for Historical Documents relating to Witchcraft.” And finally, we will end with a seminar on the historiography of the development of religious tolerance in the West.

Why do I have this job?

      • Because no one else is crazy enough to do it? Or because like Thorin, it’s a trip laid on you by destiny? Or because only you could make students care about such things, even though the impact on their lives is more pervasive and far-reaching than they know?

        • G-d. Thanks for saying those things. I’m in the most bizarre mood and wondering wtf is going on in my soul this morning. All those things might be true.

          • My pleasure. I know the wtf sensation all too well. Sometimes my only answer to myself ia a variant on “all of the above”. Sometimes it’s “Well, you thought it was a good idea at the time.” Other times it’s “You didn’t know enough to take five steps backwards, did you?” or “Who the f*** else did you think was going to do it?”

            • Sometimes I feel like what I do was practically laid in my cradle and when I hate myself and my choices, which is not so infrequently, I can use that excuse. But I could have walked away. Thorin is not a bad reference, what he says when he dies.

              • I know from whence you come – walking away is/was the most difficult choice of all – I still ponder it frequently. Maybe I could be a caterer?

PS…I also handed back papers that I forgot to record in the gradebook…blast it – I like to maintain the facade that I am actually in control of the class!

  9. Yes, it is a lovely message. In addition to it being a particularly thoughtful gesture to supporters on what may well have been the biggest day of his career so far, it arrived on the brink of him acquiring a huge new fan base. In that context, it almost seems to be a means of reassuring us that he is not going to forget the people who supported him pre-Hobbit. If he chooses to send any more messages in the future, he will know that his reading audience will be much wider, so it seems almost like a poignant “farewell” to the smaller base who have stood by him thus far. We won’t be forgotten, but the thought that this message may be the last addressed to relatively few fans is bittersweet. On the up side, an Army only gets stronger when it attracts new recruits, right?

    • Lovely thoughts. Thanks. Yes, I think he was saying thanks to his old, faithful fans at a pivotal moment. Very touching gesture.

    • I had a little feeling of “farewell” as well. I was thinking of someone who is about to get married and writes a note to his first love. Or a child leaving home for college. He doesn’t feature in the media coverage heavily yet, but it is only a matter of time they realise that Cate Blanchett only had eight days of filming and RA eighteen months. He is very well positioned and it seems, he is full prepared. Otherwise he wouldn’t have spend a fortune on clothes and just put on the suit from the SB premier.

    • Thanks for these words Northern gal. I think my heart just swelled a little more for this beautiful man.

    • Yeah Northern gal, this are lovely thoughts. His message this morning arrived at a really very special moment, that’s why it surprised me somehow deeply and made me all tearful and emotional . But I also felt a wave of warmth and appreciation streaming through me, having my legs turn to jelly. Isn’t that guy a real gem?
Richard we love you! Thanks for caring.

    • So aptly stated, Northern Gal. RA is an absolutely lovely man, inside and out. And his gratitude and humility at that very moment, right before walking down the red carpet, sealed the deal for me: there is NO ONE quite like RA in Hollywood! G-d bless him many times over, and I pray that RA remain as grounded, humble, and excellent as he is now. If he changes (because, don’t we all?), may it always only be for the better…and so far, even in that regard, he hasn’t disappointed us. 🙂
