Terrible screen shot of a bad vid, but it reminded me how much I love watching Richard Armitage hug people.
Also, I’m going to have to work on my typing because I almost always mistype “Bilbo” as “Biblio.” Déformation professionelle, I guess.

Posted in Armitage's body, career, collateral attractions, dwarves, fans, fantasy, forgiveness, gestures, joy, loss, me, morality / ethics / norms, reality, redemption, resentment, Richard Armitage, the beard, the chin, the energy, the eyes, the hair, The Hobbit, the hype, the jaw, the mouth, Thorin Oakenshield, why Armitage?
Thank goodness that showed up…I was starting to think it was squee hangover induced hallucination that I had seen it Wednesday evening.

In the post from Heirs of Durin that I recently reblogged, you can see all three of the TV spots–yeah, the quality of the vid is terrible (someone obviously recorded them from a screen) but you see new stuff you haven’t seen before, including that wonderful embrace. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I saw this and thought of Matthew Arnold, “where ignorant armies clashed by night.” After that a hug seemed appropriate.

I loved seeing this despite the poor quality. Funny, but Thorin hasn’t seemed the huggy type to me so far.

No. I wondered if this was a scene from a later film, actually.

Here’s a better quality version of the spot:
If you ask me, the hug is Thorin’s answer to Bilbo’s words–he’s saying, I will help you take it (your homeland) back, if I can — and that is the loyalty, honor and willing heart that Thorin values in his companions. So Bilbo has proven himself worthy, and Thorin’s hug says, “You are one of us.”
So it fits in this movie.

Does anyone have a link to a video of the scene when that happens? I want to watch it again. 🙂
