Celebrating Richard Armitage and his fans in 2012: Some “me + richard armitage” data

!!!

What were your highlights? What do you wish for in 2013?

!!!

From the annals of “it goes without saying”:

More that anything — what a year for Richard Armitage! When I think of everything he did and everywhere he went and … just … everything … I get a little teary!

I know I keep saying it, but it bears repeating — Mr. Armitage, thanks for everything you did this year. I wanted to make another vid, but ran out of time, so I’m reposting the Thanksgiving vid.

Thank you so much for everything you gave us, the amazing delight and pride you let us enjoy.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!

… and here’s to a 2013 that will be just as amazing.

And something that needs to be said:

Part of the reason the journey was so momentous this year was all the people whom we met along the way. Thanks to everyone who read this blog, commented, lurked, loved what was written, hated it, shook their heads. Thanks in particular to all the people who accompanied my journey with my parents and thought and prayed and hoped. Thanks to everyone who screamed when they saw Mr. Armitage step out onto that red carpet in New Zealand. Thanks to the operators of the big fan sites who supply us with information. Thanks to all the other bloggers who create conversational spaces. Thanks to the tumblr Army, the board discussants, the twitter folks, the people pinning at pinterest. Thanks to everyone who started a creative project and who encouraged someone else along the journey, however they did that. Thanks to all the donors at spReAdthelove and JustGiving and all the other places where we gave of ourselves and our resources this year.

And if you’re new — welcome to the group of Armitage fans — and to the journey that Armitage fandom has been for many of us. As someone keeps reminding me, the journey is the goal — and thus it, too, is an archetype. Grab hands with us and we’ll grab hands with you. I can’t imagine what will happen in 2013! Try and realize your dreams — what are you waiting for?

Posts with highest number of page views among those first published in 2012:

1. “One way Armitage pictures work for me,” April 20, 2012. A rumination on a detail in a picture that consoled me on a bad day.

2. Part 3 of the fan showcase with Jane, January 18, 2012. Comments were closed after some commentators started making personal attacks.

3. “If Richard Armitage fell in love,” June 15, 2012. I like this one a lot, even now.

4. “Armitage leads with the feelings: or, How thick is Richard Armitage?” December 5, 2012. Comments closed because I was tired of pointing out what I hadn’t said in the post, but I want to get back to this soon.

5. “Expecto Armitagium!” September 14, 2012. A post asking what your Armitage patronus would look like?

6. “On fantasizing about sexual encounters with Richard Armitage,” April 3, 2012. As much storm and hurt feelings as this caused, I’m glad I finally made this decision. I learned a great deal from everything that happened then, and later.

7. “Knit slacks Armitage: Brief thoughts on that new photo,” February 8, 2012. A remnant of a photo shoot I guess we’ll never see.

My feelings on November 28th before the premiere!

Richard Armitage in Wellington on November 28th!

All the publicity after November 28th! For me, especially seeing Armitage with Prince William at the Royal Premiere on December 12. OK, I’m one of those Americans.

A lot of the Armitage stuff that appeared. OK, OK. Despite my reservations, I especially liked the WETA workshop Thorin figure and still do.

Finally getting to SEE THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY!

I didn’t go back to my writing very carefully — but I wrote more this year than ever, which, considering what an awful year it was emotionally, makes me feel like I stood up to a lot of the challenges that were testing me and even if I didn’t win, I held my ground. Significantly, I wrote more that I was proud of for various reasons, especially my series on Mr. Thornton and the things I wrote about desire. And I finally started blogging an interpretive Richard Armitage biography.

  1. Some of those searches are a bit out there! Lol!

My highlights were finally getting to see The Hobbit and thanks to a wonderful friend…receiving my signed RA pic. I have other personal highlights too numerous to mention here. In 2013 I wish for a better year for me personally and hope that something turns up to stop me worrying so much. And I look forward to The Desolation of Smaug in Dec.

It’s been a fantastic year to be part of this community and I have especially enjoyed reading your blog. I look forward to being a part of this RA rollercoaster for another year and reading more from you and all the other fab bloggers out there.

Happy New Year to you Servetus xx

Best wishes to you for a 2013 of happiness, growth and Armitage lust. You have a gift, and I’m happy to make this blog a part of my day, whether it’s for a giggle, an ogle, or a deep thought. Cheers.

Thanks, Servetus, for your part in engendering endless Armitage discussion (and then some).
Happy New Year to you and all!

    • Me either, it’s really a reason to be excited (or, as Armitage says, ekseyetid). Thanks for continuing to read, and best wishes to you.

  4. Thank you 🙂 so looking forward to 2013 and following Richard and his followers wherever they may lead. It’s certainly been a journey following from the beginning and meeting all the lovely people who’ve joined the Armitage …sorry had a few glasses too many but it’s been amazing for me as I met Richard at the London premier which made me love him more 🙂

  5. On the blogs: my highlights have been Me + Richard and Confesssions of a watcher. AND the widening community of Armitage appreciators on these and other blogs.

For Mr. A, just so thrilled about Thorin and the recognition of a very good actor.

The appearance of his mum at the London premiere.

The promotional worldwide tours, and the joy he has taken in reaching this high phase and recognition of his long work and talent. And his confidence in maintaining a sort of control of those interviews, and feeling more free to clown around (Toronto interviews, specifically)

  6. Lol! Those searches literally made me lol, as did the one for White Asparagus Recipe (I love.asparagus)….not sure why, but it just did. And regarding Mr A meeting Wills, I am one of ‘those’ Americans as well. That was the highlight of the London premiere for me!
2012 was the year I first truly came to discover ‘the man’ & I am so glad I did. Since then I have met lovely ppl on Twitter & have enjoyed reading blogs such as yours. In fact, I had been tossing around the idea of a blog for a while & Mr A (& you) helped motivate me to start my own blog (which I have been neglecting) & start writing again. I can’t wait to see what he & you have in store for 2013.

PS: Tonight I spend first hour of this 2013 year in the cinema (with my peronal longtime Tolkien devotee ;)) and we had a great fun! 🙂
“Awwwww”- my hubby limited himself to this type of comments whenever RA (Thorin) appears on screen 😉

    • I used to get searches all the time for the other Richard Armitage, and then they sort of went away. But I’m wondering if “Richard Armitage” and election wasn’t actually one for the other guy …

      best to you, too, Ania.

  12. Hi Servetus,
I loved your thank you video and your reminding us of your June 15, 2012 post again. Both are really beautiful and I have put links to them on my blog sidebar–under “You know you’re an RA fan if” at the top.
I wish you every happiness that you wish for yourself, in 2013.

  13. What a wonderful overview over a great RA-year 2012.
Thank you, Servetus! With the hectic entry into the New Year, I did not have a spare minute to recapitulate the wonderful year and so your overview really is very welcome!
I must admit, I am very glad to see that one of the top search combinations leading to my blog is not among your top 20. It annoyes me greatly that it leads to mine and really jumped up to crazy extent after the red carpet event in New Zealand. And I am quite sure the searchers do not find on my blog what they are searching for, as I won’t mention it or talk about it either way ;o)

    • (Piggybacking due to browser.) I haven’t had much time during the holidays to visit here, but I wanted to say I hope you and your family had a happy holiday — wishing you a happy new year too. I clicked on the video and before I knew it, I was in tears…wasn’t expecting that reaction. Anyway thanks to you, Servetus, for sharing so much with all of us here on your blog…from your fantasies to your realities. It’s been a whirlwind of a year here in Armitage world and you’ve been a big part of that…along with all the other bloggers and sites. I’ve heard one way to keep the blues away is to always have something to look forward too…and I realized the other night I’ve had something to look forward to for awhile now and a lot of that has to do with coming here and sharing with others who admire RA as much as I do. Not sure if I’m a bigger fan of Richard Armitage or Michaela Servetus. Anyway thank you and happy new year to you — and everyone else who shares in the wonder of RA.

      • Ditto — sloan, I hope you had calm, happy holidays and I wish you the best for the new year. Thanks also for the huge compliment. I’ll try to live up to that responsibility!

        • Sorry, it wasn’t my intention to make you feel responsible — we all have enough of that already. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing.

          Like

          • oh, not at all — you know how some people jump toward responsibility. I do want to make being here an enjoyable / worthwhile experience, though!

    • I don’t know why that’s not among my top twenty, either. I’d suspect those people would end up at Traxy’s blog. It was odd. That search was very popular at the beginning of my blog, and then almost faded away, and has recently been making a reappearance. But it’s not in the top 20, still.

What’s making me happy is that the trend after the middle of the year was toward more searches about Armitage and fewer that involved me.
