Richard Armitage Legenda 80: Stuff worth reading
Legenda offers a brief, non-inclusive index of stuff about Richard Armitage that I noticed and enjoyed since the last episode. It doesn’t usually include materials presented on the major fansites, which I love dearly, but which are linked in the sidebar. Because I always forget or just miss stuff, please add additional pieces of interest via link in the comments.]
Happy birthday, Ian McKellen!
Great birthday night for @ianmckellen and a great welcome back for all of us here in #Wellington. So good to see the gang all together!

Richard Armitage Archive
This was a really active week in Armitageworld. A long list, but I’m convinced every one is worth your time to click, read, look, comment.
COMMENT!
- What’s really in Thorin’s barrel. I’m sure she was just tickling his toes. Totally.
- New Richard Armitage page at fanlore.org.
- Kelbel75 is describing her path to Armitage — here, in The Adventure Begins and the next step in The Handsome Stranger.
- Why Obsessive Behavior loves North & South — the labor relations perspective. This post made me think of Skully for some reason.
- “Ebb and Flow” of Armitage fandom.
- Graham McTavish tweets on the cast of The Hobbit‘s return to Wellington.
- Richard Armitage, source neutrality, and tyranny! A heady combination.
- Neutrality and Richard Armitage.
- Xenia describes her perfect wedding to Richard Armitage with just a little tongue in cheek.
- North & South manga style drawings?
- Artist’s rendering of the Thorin “December” calendar pose.
- When did Mr. Thornton realize he’d fallen in love with Margaret?
- Update on the red plaid project.
- More Richard Armitage-related mishaps that have happened to Bechep recently. Seriously, Bec, watch out for the stove!
- Thanks to Trudy: Hmm, is this a new Armitage fan? Ph.D. student in French lit writes scintillating reviews of North & South and Spooks 7.
- Also from Trudy: The self-contained hero — w/discussion of Mr. Thornton.
- Guyday Friday and chest hair will get you over writer’s block! Yum. Oh wait.
- “Despicable You” — a reaction to Alyssabethancourt’s post about Lucas North and the plot line Spooks 9. The post is wonderfully illuminating / emotive, but I suggest readers be careful with some of the comments.
- The many faces of Richard Armitage as photographed by Richard Ascroft.
- mulubinba’s on vacation in the steps of three different Armitage characters!
- John Standring in Munchable Monday.

Richard III news
Richard Armitage-related fanfic
- At A03: “Little Box,” by Blue Peony. Hobbit / AU. Dysfunctional Durin family relationships. Rated G.
Richard Armitage-related mature, sexy, slash, and / or RPF fanfic
It was a fanfic kind of week. Make sure you read all warnings / labels, etc. before proceeding.
- At wattpad: “Love is a Wound” goes to ch. 15 and 16.
- At MorrighansMuse: Emmanuelle is trapped in an elevator with Richard Armitage.
- At A03: “Good Morning,” by bombur_bastic. Armitage + female reader insert. PWP. Sexy!
- At A03: “Overruled,” by Forever Distracted. Slash (Armitage + Pace) — and unbelievably sweet. Very little sex. Sweetness factor esp high ch. 3 and 5. OMG ch. 3 and ch. 5.
- At A03: “So you like writing rpf. About us,” by Dream Seeker. An RPF about characters in a different RPF. This kind of stuff is why I love fanfic.
- At A03: “Pain-Bearer,” by lilithiumwords. (Thorin / Bilbo / Hobbit AU). Make sure you read all the warnings — lots of unpleasantness and mature themes in this one, but it delivers unbelievably on the hurt/comfort axis, which is one of my favorite fanfic tropes.
Tumblr
- Can’t watch Armitage’s sex scenes?
- Richard Armitage keeps people alive. I can’t tell you how often I’ve heard variations on stories like this one privately.
OT, collateral attractions, and stuff I think about
- Heroes, villains, and the plumbing. Seriously, this could be a fantastic novel. Just add some Victorian alligators.
- Amazon.com decides it’s going to license and sell fanfics. While I can imagine this might be a boon for some authors (khandy, I’m looking at you), on the whole my reaction is extremely negative. This piece says a lot of what I think.
- The damage of offering simplistic answers to hard religious questions. And encouragement to find your own answers.
- Taming the Woman: Irene Adler and the Male Gaze
- Avocado and Goat Cheese Alfredo Pasta
- Interview w/Miss Piggy in the The Guardian.
- How will scholars view and analyze our messy academic offices in the long distant future?
Thanks for the link! 😀

Hi Servetus,
Thanks for the great work in compiling all these links.
I went to the RA fanlore page, and now I’m curious- who compiles this info? I did a comparison with several other actors, all well known, and their pages were nothing like as detailed as RA’s. I wonder who chooses the quotes to represent the overall feeling of the fandom, as I imagine this could be quite contentious. Were you asked if your quotes could be used?

I was not asked, but it’s fine.
This is a wiki, so it’s crowdsourced information. There should be tabs toward the top of the page that you can click (history or discussion or something like that) that indicated who has constructed, added to, changed the page. I assume that it will a fan with a handle.

I looked…I don’t recognize the handle, but I’m not well versed in all the platforms either.

Thanks for linking to me (I think you’ve doubled up on the neutrality piece…all that Thucydides excitement 🙂 ). I had some pretty ambivalent thoughts on the Amazon fan fic news…I’ll be interested to see how it develops.

You know how I am about Thucydides … 🙂
I just don’t see how things like slash will ever be licensable. That means you’ll have some really good canon stories that might not have been written otherwise, which i suppose is not so bad. Like, for example, “The Gruinard Project,” potentially, anyway. But slash? I don’t see it happening. Which is fine, on some level, except if they decide the fact that they’re licensing ff authors means that they’re going to crack down on authors who don’t get licenses. It also endangers the whole realm of juvenile and teen writers who get started writing via fanfic — at least potentially.

Yeah, there is something potentially stinky about it from several angles I think.
