Richard Armitage Legenda 87: Stuff worth reading

[Legenda offers a brief, non-inclusive index of stuff about Richard Armitage that I noticed and enjoyed since the last episode. It doesn’t usually include materials presented on the major fansites, which I love dearly, but which are linked in the sidebar. Because I always forget or just miss stuff, please add additional pieces of interest via link in the comments.]

World’s End premiere

No idea what this film is or why it’s premiering in Wellington, or why he’d wear those brown boots with that particular suit, but anything that gets Richard Armitage out in public these days gets my vote. I just loved this picture. A major pick-me-up!

  1. Always love Legenda! Especially these days when my head is buried in Camp NaNo and this is how I catch up with the world of Armitage 🙂 Although I lucked out last night when the pictures of the Wellington premiere of TWE rolled out and he showed up with that snazzy suit and then those shoes.

Maybe they were the only ones he packed on this trip along with his Crocs and boots? The boots would have done nicely though…

        • Well, they say brwon shoes goes with Navy suit. That’s what sartorial fashion affirms. I’m not sure I liked it in this case.

          • oh, was that navy? okay, then, it makes sense even if I thought it looked a bit odd. I thought it was a darker suit than that.

        • I like them because you notice them, they don’t just blend in as all one color. I’m not very fashion conscious though, I just like what I like 😉

          • he can sort of do that because his legs are so long. I think when people say brown shoes with navy suit they usually mean a slightly darker brown than that.

              • that combination on the left is clearly casual, though. If he’d had a less formal outfit on, it would have been great. Note that the guy in the suit on the right has dark shoes on.

                • I know, but as I said, it makes a formal look more edgy and interesting. Kleine Stilbrüche geben einem Look erst das gewisse Etwas.

                  • I guess the issue for me with this shoe choice is that, given that the entire rest of his outfit is so (a) dark and (b) conventional, these boots here say, stare at my feet. I don’t get the full effect of the rest of the outfit because the shoes glare out at me. Even if I love those shoes.

It will be interesting to learn (I assume someone will ask) what Ilaria Urbinati thinks of this. Maybe she told him to do it, in which I case I think she advised him poorly.

To compare, it’s not like with the Belstaff boots at BAFTA in May of 2010, where you only notice later that the shoes break style with the suit. Then when you see them, you think, Aha — subtle style break. Shows signature, independence. Here I think, oh, didn’t have the right shoes with him.

                    • In my opinion fashion isn’t always about subtleties. But it really is a question of personal taste and preference. Thus, I wouldn’t consider Ilaria Urbinati as the ultimate ” arbiter elegantiarum”.

                    • No, fashion is about context, as I have written many, many times on this blog. What’s right for you within the dimensions of what’s current, the occasion you’re attending, the conventions of dress, the expectations laid on you, and wearability / functionality for the wearer inter alia. I don’t consider Urbinati the ultimate arbiter, either, but she’s the arbiter he’s employing on his behalf, which is why I’m interested in whether she would have advised this. And I don’t read him as someone who necessarily wants to be the standout person in any setting — and these shoes move him in that direction. They say, look at my feet.

So, this actor on White Rose wants to play James Bond? Does LOL mean Lots of Luck? Maybe James Bond in prep school.
