Time for another link collection — ymmv. (Used to be: OT, collateral attractions, and things I think about.) Chat, add your own favorites in the comments. Continued from here.
- Third and final piece of KathrynD’s Tunisian travel tales.
- Not totally OT: Richard Armitage’s similarity to a figure in a Titian painting.
- Viggo Mortenson comments rather bluntly on Peter Jackson’s preoccupation with CGI in the LOTR films.
- Randall William Cook of WETA responds to Andy Serkis’ dismissal of CGI artists as “digital makeup” artists. One assumes Serkis said these things because he’s been dissed by the arbiters of acting awards so often, but still a bit mean, I think.
- After reading the fan abuse about behavior outside the Tom Hiddleston / Coriolanus stage door (and seeing it levied proactively against Armitage fans), this is the position that more or less reflects the conclusions I came to.
- Actors (McAvoy, Fassbender, Jackman) forced again to confront fan activities around their characters and persons. I know how I feel about this, but the comments on the article are interesting.
- Comic Book Resources decides to go to moderated forums after a nasty incident of fan bullying and stalking of one of their contributors. I don’t think I need to say how I feel about this either, given recent events.
- John Green (author of the fabulous The Fault in Our Stars) on fandom.
- Northern Rail dedicates a car to Elizabeth Gaskell.
- Manuscript discovery allows the publisher to restore the original condition of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s later stories — revealing the scholarly consensus that he avoided social realism to be incorrect. His publisher censored his social observations fairly heavily.
- Didion comments on the film of Mansfield Park.
- If Victorian authors wrote listicles!
- Appearance of British teeth said to be improving.
- Why dude feminism is so galling.
- A social media network that lets you see what your friends are spending.
- How do you decide what to “favorite” on Twitter? (For Serv, it’s the equivalent of “like” on FB when I want to say, I saw this and liked it but have no reply.)
- Is it okay to leave at intermission of a play?
- Interview with Shades of Grey future superstar Jamie Dornan: “I’d like to stop tying women up.”
- Why academics should spend more time sleeping.
- My RL FB feed has been outraged at the lack of coverage of the Indian elections in US media, so in case you missed it (the BBC covered it extensively, so I don’t feel bad), here’s an introduction to the new prime minister-elect, Narendra Modi. Here’s the problem for me as an outsider — I don’t know enough about Indian politics after the Partition to have any meaningful opinion on this development. But I’m going to try to follow it more closely now.
Thanks so much for the link xx

Thanks for this, Serv. I spent a leisurely Saturday morning in my bed, clicking through some of the links. That article on British teeth – funny and insightful in equal measure. Graham Norton and the breaking of the 4th wall – cringe-worthy (although the actors almost seemed to enjoy it?). Jamie Dornan – huh? He’s from my little island? The things I learn… Anyway, thanks for expanding my online reading matter beyond RA news!
