Thorin Oakenshield bottle caps

Screen shot 2014-12-06 at 5.26.37 PMI just learned about this from Herba — a picture of the bottle top with Thorin’s face available at her blog. Apparently it was around last year too but I missed it.

The beverage is called Karamalz and it is a so-called malt beer. It’s a very low-alcohol, very sweet beer (less alcohol even than near-beer, and it tastes a lot like a sweet American root beer) fermented from barley malt syrup that I’ve only ever had in Germany. I don’t think I’ve ever had this particular brand; I’ve only tried it a few times in a restaurant , where the brand on offer is usually Vita-Malz.

Anyway, there are five collector cards you can get (one in each pack; none of Thorin) and apparently twenty different bottle tops. If you get one of each and send it in there’s another prize you can win — a collector’s coin.

If any of our German friends have an extra Thorin bottle cap … hint, hint, hint.

Bottoms up!
