That time Richard Armitage acted a murder that repulsed us all

Thank heavens the fake blood on U.S. television is usually of higher quality.

  1. The tears I cried at this scene were hurt tears.

  3. At least Lucas/John made it as gentle as possible for her ( leaving aside that he was murdering her) by telling her she would be okay and that the ambulance was on its way. I doubt the Toothfairy is going to be as thoughtful.

  4. I hated S9 and have only ever been able to watch it once …. even though Lucas North is my all time favorite RA character. I blame those alien scriptwriters. At least Hannibal will be well written.

  5. I remember I felt so sorry for her (and she was a well-written character) and who Lucas had become. 😦
IMO, contrary to Marian’s murder in RH, this ‘failure to provide assistance’ (it that right?) is useful to Lucas ‘arc, at least in S09.

    • I dunno, I thought the end of series 2 was quite plot-provocative for series 3 of Robin Hood as well. This is a really chilling moment in Spooks 9, though, it makes the fairly subtle point that someone who can kill on behalf of the state can also do it in other contexts ….

  6. That was the first ever scene I saw of Spooks – and Lucas. And since I hadn’t seen the lead-up to this episode, I couldn’t make sense of why the “mysterious goodie” was letting her die… Grah, I still think the writers got it horribly wrong with Lucas. 😦

  7. Yep, could only watch this once. Devastated that Lucas could be cold enough to do this. Angry that this was where the story was leading. Shocked at my hope that this could be fixed, Lucas could somehow redeem himself. But still, I love Lucas the character. My brain/heart doesn’t allow him to be John.

  8. This was the final moment when S9 became a big nope for me. It’s basically the ninth season of Dallas. Which is why I never watched S10 – Lucas isn’t there and there’s no logical explanation for it 😛

  9. I remember my reaction.”Wait, he’s a bad guy? This sucks.” Pretty much sums up that season.

  10. I loved that episode because I really loved her character. When I saw him let up his finger and let her bleed out I gasped. It hit me right in the stomach. I was stunned. Especially since he was so reluctant to execute her when ‘Harry’ ordered him too. It was such an immediate showing of how low he was capable of going to save his own skin and get what he wanted — whoever ‘he’ was at this point. Lucas was no longer Lucas, nor was he John….I think he was something/someone new who was unbalanced of course….the years and after effects of the eight years in prison with torture was now a part of his make up as well. I think the Lucas character was very complicated…there was Lucas who we knew, John from the past and then who he was in the end.

  11. None of S9 made sense to me. I can’t believe that the people from mars actually watched any of the previous shows. Nothing connected up – nothing made sense. They threw lots of things in but none of it could stick.

  12. I hated Season 9, I still do, I’m still angry at the writers. I’ll always be angry at the writers. I re-watch 7 and 8 all the time, but have only watched 9 a couple of times, and avoid watching the last moments again. And Lucas is my favorite RA character.

  13. Richard Armitage has had the most fanstanic time whlist shooting the hobbit and spooks. I really like him in spooks I thought the way he played Lucas was incredible he deserved an Oscar for that performance like many of the actors that worked alongside Richard. Thank you Richard for all the brilliant times you have given whlist been in spooks. Remember your a brilliant actor we will always love you for it. Lots of love Emily Xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  14. I’ll add my two cents to the dislike of Season 9. I have rewatched S7 and S8 several times but only watched S9 once. I was angry with the writers too. I was recently watching some old interviews and RA had so much faith in the writers. I wonder how he felt later.

    • That was the year when he was talking about throwing scripts against the wall of this trailer, I believe 🙂
