  2. By the time I am an old lady, we will have gone from the na√Įvet√© of post-Happy Days 1960s to ordinary businesses having to install bullet proof glass in their windows on the chance that passing terrorists might attack. Why can’t we all just get along? And it’s only a matter of time before it happens here. It will happen no matter who is president.

I can only hope that everyone is out of that theatre.

I’m especially uneasy for the Syrian refugees because this is what they are fleeing, but it is they who will be looked upon with suspicion and probably be attacked for.

  3. I’ve already seen a couple of my acquaintances on FB starting up about open borders again . . . I wish people could understand that those who are bound and determined to make such vicious attacks somehow manage to do so no matter what the status of a country’s borders. And yes, the poor refugees will likely be targeted by those who just have to blame SOMEBODY.

  4. I feel like since I’ve been an intellectual adult, I’ve been concerned about the potential coming to the fore of an FN government in France and the potential consequences to the country (full of Muslims) and Europe at large. I remember distinctly lecturing about it in my western civ class in 2002. So maybe I should say, France keeps avoiding that disaster, they are sensible enough not to draw the wrong conclusion here. OTOH this is really shocking and it makes me wonder if this will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back …

In any case, prayers for and thoughts to all of our Parisian friends and French readers at large. We are thinking of you as hard as we can.

        • I agree, we have to fight the destabilization and the risk of abandoning everything we think important is high (we have done a lot of that in the US in the last decade). I wish you all strength in hanging on to your lives and your morals.
