As a neutral those were the funniest penalty shootouts I’ve seen! I know it wasn’t funny for the fans of either team but hopefully over time they will also laugh at those ridiculous run ups! The better team won from a neutral perspective, too.
I did see the statistics afterward and it looked like Germany should have won on points. Not sure what happened. I often struggle with the way the Germans play. Too conservative for my taste.
Actually Germans are one of the more attacking teams in world football. They’re also quite balanced. So the French game will be interesting to see two balanced teams meet.
This Italian team was crippled by injuries and they achieved their goal which was to force the game to penalties. But nobody could have predicted that penalty shootout. If you want a laugh Google “Zaza” – he was bought only to take the penalty then came out with that!
And now you must congratulate little Wales. Wales is still part of the UK, LOL, so I’m sure RA is cheering (England, Scotland and Ireland are all out). The team has got into the semi finals after destroying Belgium 3-1. It is a dream moment for the Welsh, and is a bit like the success of Leicester – the underdog who unexpectedly made good.
JOKE
the comparable composer for us is John Philip Sousa — the difference being that it’s still completely acceptable, even laudable, to play his music here. It hasn’t been discredited in the minds of Americans at all. A useful thing for American students to think about when they want to point their fingers at 19th century Germany’s political “issues” 🙂
Sorry!

Uh, it was a nail biting thriller; 18 penalty shots. Happy Germany won, but I’m always rooting for the underdog, so Iceland is my favourite.

I’m always for Germany because of my history with the country, but it would definitely be wonderful for Island if they were to win.
