Richard Armitage and spy story tropes #3 — the taxi

So — I was thinking about whether is really the way a spy would go to the U.S. Embassy (assuming that the CIA has its station at the embassy, which is kind of questionable, but that seems to be what the story is telling us, because the location of the embassy since 2008 is right behind the Brandenburg Gate). It seems kind of obvious, but it does set the scene.

Random note — before the embassy moved, I used to run into a lot of embassy people at my favorite sushi place in Mitte, Ishin sushi in the Mittelstr., which was close to the old embassy location. I assume that the sushi is still good. There’s a mega-bookstore across the street, too.

Obviously Moscow is a more tense taxi ride for your average spy from “the West.”

  2. taxi always a more discreet option as public transport is all camera ridden 24h/day and your face will be everywhere, potentially anyway 😉 Bike a much better option though 🙂

    • I know that’s true in England, but not sure about Berlin. In any case the German privacy laws on this type of thing are pretty strict. I’m guessing it’s not the German government he’s worried about here, even if the BKA is watching.

      • true that 🙂 it’s the internal enemy he is supposed to catch, i am getting a feeling that this will not be a black and white issue which i think is good. There are a whole bunch of posters on the site with I am Thomas Shaw with face of all ages and descriptions, i am guessing they created one version for any potential viewer so we could make use them as fake profile pics? My guess only but they specifically give you a download button for each 🙂 Interesting idea 🙂 I downloaded them and a specific one that seems closest to me physically 😉 Not sure i’d be in the Shaw bunch though, remains to be seen.
I hope he’ll go on a journey of learning to love Berlin regardless oj his job and wanting to stay there, reconnect to his roots 🙂 I mean Daniel Miller, not RA, the latter clearly loves Berlin 🙂

        • yeah, Armitage’s signals lately definitely seem to suggest that there is some ambivalence there. Although he said that kind of thing the whole time he was playing Lucas, too, that he had an open worldview but was distrustful of government.
