yeah, I didn’t totally love Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, but I got what was supposed to be good about it.
There seems to be some confusion in this article between “what I like” and “what is good.”

The more reviews I read, the more I understand why so many actors don’t read them. Love it, hate it, picking at everything. I know that’s their job, but if I were an actor, I’d be so confused I wouldn’t know what to think.

reviews are really for (a) people who are deciding what to watch and (b) people who are interesting in the cultural conversation around the arts and media. The actual artist needs something different as “criticism” (in the broad sense).

No — someone who takes on the role of a coach, who is trusted enough to be able to point out when something is really a problem and skilled and objective enough to notice where the problem is in the first place. No fan can really take on that role. We’re too involved.
