Collateral attractions: Annabel Capper in an exceptional performance #richardarmitage

Annabel Capper recently opened as Mrs. Bonner in Mrs. Packard (a play by award-winning director Emily Mann) at the Bridge Repertory Theatre in East Cambridge, Massachusetts, a production in cooperation with New York’s Playhouse Creatures Theatre. The play concerns a woman committed to an insane asylum in the 1860s after rejecting her husband’s religious convictions, and her efforts to free herself. The play is based on a true story (read it — after she was released, her husband nailed her into a room) and is historically accurate and apparently exceptionally brutal. Capper is playing the asylum’s sadistic matron; she’s the first actor mentioned in a review found here. The show runs through April 9 in East Cambridge.

  1. It’s a terrific play. Did a public reading of it a year ago or so and just the reading was gripping.

    • Everything I read about it last night supports your comment. Sounds really (cough) visceral. And what a wild story as the base for the piece.
