    • That article actually showed in my RL FB feed, linked from a grad school compatriot who’s now a (modern) Irish historian, along with a skeptical remark.

      • I haven’t seen the film yet, so I don’t know, but I generally do not trust film productions to present historical facts truthfully. Most of the time the facts don’t fit the dramatic requirements. So I am inclined to trust you and your colleague… looks as if the writer of the review did not research particularly well, himself…


        • I was thinking about this last night while discussing a period of history with which I’m not tremendously familiar (3500 BC) with students. Like, what I consider an acceptable approximation is probably different from what Obscura would consider — she knows 20 times what I do and I know 100 times what the students know — so if it looks authentic to them, they’re fine with it.

          I laughed at the review that said the relic was the size of an American football (true) — most relics are really small. Vanishingly tiny. Slivers of things …
