I had no idea they were not available in the U.S. My kids used to love those (now that they are teens, they like the Kinder Buenos, without the toy, and more chocolate!)
The Kinder Surprise with the toy inside the egg was my kids’ favourite. At Easter, they have large eggs with cool toys to assemble. Once a croquet set, once a sail boat, once a plane!
The explanation that’s always given for why the traditional one was not allowed to be imported never made sense to me. There was a huge black market in them — people would smuggle them in or get them mailed and then resell or save for special occasions.
