Richard Armitage tangentially related
I keep thinking today will be the day that it’s not worth a separate post for these. Huh.
Ocean’s 8:
- Daily Mail, in a review otherwise so negative that it makes me wonder if they saw the film at all: “hunky Richard Armitage.”
- Independent.ie mentions Richard Armitage as part of a strong supporting cast.
- They have these now in big cities: screenings aimed at parents with babies under three.
- Leicester paper doesn’t mention Armitage! Sleeping on the job.
- Ocean’s 8 dropped 62 percent in its second week (note: this is normal) and should hit $100M U.S. domestic gross by next weekend. And there isn’t another film aimed at this demographic until mid-July.
- Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, the film makes Bitchmedia’s summer recommendations list.

Ah yes, I remember those mommy/baby showings when my younger son was little. They’re a good thing. Mind you, I also took him to a regular showing of “The Lord of the Rings” when he was 4 months old! I remember my mum saying “Cover his ears,” but really he slept through most of it.

Eine eher rhetorische Frage: Warum sitzt der halbe Cast von Ocean’s 8 auf Graham Nortons Sofa und Herr Armitage (wie immer) nicht???
Ich weiß, dass er nur eine kleine Rolle hat, aber das hat andere nicht abgehalten… Für einen Engländer (mit den Sympathien des heimischen Publikums) wäre das doch eine gute Gelegenheit gewesen, um als humorvoller Gegenpart der Damen zu fungieren. James Corden war schon auf Grund kleinerer Rollen zu Gast.
Aber RA war nicht mal für den Hobbit dort. Da saß wiederholt
Martin Freeman, was unter anderem erklärt, dass man dessen Namen kennt und bei Armitage allgemein nur mit den Schultern zuckt.

Weil RA an Promo immer nur so viel macht wie er muss und nicht mehr und auch nicht gerade wild darauf zu sein scheint?
Bei Ocean’s 8 käme nun noch hinzu, dass er mit Drehen beschäftigt ist und evtl wenig Zeit hat…
Aber wie gesagt, reine Spekulation, weil ich weder ihn noch das Filmgeschäft näher kenne.

Du hast wahrscheinlich recht, es ist ein Muster, das sich so durchzieht und liegt entweder an seiner Persönlichkeit oder an seinem Management oder an beidem.
Ich finde das sehr schade, weil es gerade im britischen Fernsehen und Radio sehr gute Formate gibt und er da einfach zu selten auftaucht. Man sieht ihn kaum und so ist es kein Wunder, dass ihn (gefühlt) niemand kennt. Die BBC hat ihn einfach nicht auf dem Schirm (ups… Wortspiel).
Ganz sicher hat noch nie irgendjemand in meinem Umfeld jemals seinen Namen gekannt oder auch nur gehört. Das hat sich, seit ich RA “entdeckt” habe, nicht geändert.

Dass er gefühlt so lange kein britisches fernsehen gemacht hat, kann durchaus auch Strategie sein.
Ich habe mal von einem anderen Schauspieler gelesen, der immer beides, also Film und Fernsehen gemacht hat und der irgendwann den Rat bekam, er solle sich ganz auf Filme konzentrieren, wenn er eine amerikanische Karriere aufbauen wolle.
Ich weiß nicht, ob das so in Zeiten von ‘Game of Thrones’ etc. noch gilt, aber es kann schon sein, dass er sich bewußt auf die USA bzw auf internationale Produktionen konzentriert.
Allerdings war das bisher halt was die Reichweite angeht (noch?) nicht sonderlich erfolgreich seufz
In meinem Umfeld kennen einige ‘den Oberzwerg’ aus dem Hobbit, aber mit seinem Namen wird’s dann schon schwierig 🙂

I think that’s possible — he seems to be someone who waits for projects if he doesn’t like what he’s being offered.

I probably would say something like Herba: it’s really not his temperament to do this sort of promotion. Offhand I only remember one time when he was on a show with a group of guests.

I try to picture him sitting at Graham Norton’s sofa, laughing about Norton’s jokes….and fail 🙂

He’s not the most “schlagfertig” guy, and you need that for Norton. I always figured that was an issue for him with the U.S. late night hosts, esp Colbert. It’s not that he’s not funny when he wants to be but he’s not quick off the mark.
