Hmmmm he genuinely looks terrified lol!
She certainly thinks she’s very cool. Her dog is gorgeous though! 🙂. My sister in law is vegan. I understand it but I love meat and cheese. I wish animals were treated humanely however. I wish we could have more honor and respect for their lives, for the environment… I believe there should be honor for a life given so that I can eat well. I don’t know. I believe in eating animals and using milk for cheese etc?? But not callously….
Ultimately to each their own I guess.

I wonder if she feeds her dog vegan food? One of my vegan friends did that with her cat but he kept throwing up…

I’m sorry if this comes across preachy, but not feeding a cat meat, is animal abuse. It will slowly die. And it will be your friend’s fault. I don’t know if your friend still has this cat, or still feeds it the same food of course. Maybe they have no idea what the condequences are to what they’re doing.
Again, sorry, but I cannot see this and just close my eyes and not say anything.

This was a few years ago and she figured out pretty quickly that her cat wasn’t keeping the food down so went to normal cat food. She struggled because she felt guilty about having a cat in the first place as pets aren’t really vegan in many people’s eyes

Well to a degree! She’s intelligent but there’s a lot of misinformation spread by some vegan organisations and a lot of guilt tripping -which is why you end up with people trying to fed obligate carnivores a vegan diet!

Rachel, expressing what I thought…. She looks like she is a lot older than me in BS1 and I am only 4 years younger… RA seemed also quite ‘haggard’ in his last interview, still handsome but not without aging signs as he is in these pictures.
Modern-day obsession with lack of wrinkles and skin spots is worrying!!

Mel – I gave up eating meat maybe 10 years ago because, like you, I felt uncomfortable with the way farmed animals were treated. It seemed to me that a drive for cheap meat had forced farmers to cut costs which inevitably compromised animal welfare. At the time I felt that if I could guarantee the animal I was eating had lived a decent life and died without trauma that would be okay. But because I couldn’t guarantee those things I had to remove myself from the chain. Now I can’t imagine ever eating meat again and I have also become 95% vegan ( I describe myself as a very bad vegan – 100% vegan at home but frequently falling off the cheese and butter wagon when eating out). It is a real life style change and honestly I think the best way to do it is gradually.
I gave up meat because I could no longer dissociate from the cruelty ( in my opinion) that eating meat encouraged. What I didn’t expect was the sense of empowerment I have felt at being able to walk away from something I was uncomfortable with. And the physical benefits of eating a plant based diet. Yep – another irritating vegan!

Interesting — I sometimes felt that way about kashrut — impressed at my own self-discipline.
It’s not that I think vegans per se are irritating. Michelle Forbes would probably irritate me even if she were a carnivore.

I don’t understand vegetarianism or veganism at all, unless it is for health reasons. But that might be because I am a grand-daughter of farmers and for me it was part of daily routine to see chickens, rabbits and turkeys being fed and then killed. I also fed killed chicks, mice and quails to birds of prey (when I volunteered for a local bird conservation centre) and never batted an eyelid. Having said that, I don’t eat much meat anyway as we cannot afford to go to local farmers to buy it and whatever is sold in supermarkets is often disgusting.
What annoys me the most is some vegan people (like Michelle?) try to push their ideas onto others, a bit like Jehovah’s witnesses in terms of eating. I have 2 vegan friends and several vegetarians and none of them ever tried to make me like that stuff…
Heck I even like her less now, if that was possible lol

Going Vegan is too hard. I tried it. Nothing for me to eat that I liked. So I am a lacto/ovo vegetarian. But I never try to convert anyone. It is a personal choice. I did it because of my love for animals and I know I don’t really save many animals in my lifetime but either way I do not contribute to their demise. Those who have farms and have been raised to have animals in their life do not look at their cows, etc. like I do. I would have one living in my house lol… As I said it is a personal choice, just like smoking and I believe everyone is entitled to their choices. Unless it hurts me there is nothing I care to do about it. When they ask me why I am a vegetarian then I tell them other wise I do it quietly and inconspicuously. PS: But I have never been a meat eater, even when young so it definitely is not a hardship.

I’m like eat what you want just like pray as you want or not just don’t condemn me if I don’t subscribe to what you believe! I’m not a bad person if I like roasted chicken I can’t survive off salad (well certainly not romaine 🤣🤣🤣)!

“I would have one living in my house lol” Maybe because you never had one breaking in? 😀 If there’s something I utterly dislike it is cows…and I don’t even like beef that much. Cows entirely destroyed our garden and brought down part of our edging wall twice when we were living in Scotland because the naughty monsters liked a plant we had in the garden. Even after the plant was gone, they kept trying to demolish everything. I never understood why people believe they are so endearing, one of the most aggressive species I ever had around (and I lived in such remote areas that I had many birds of prey flying around and stags always quite close to the house). Between cows and sheep, I do prefer sheep. Cows, spiders and mosquitoes are animals I would never miss if they were to disappear.

That’s true of a lot of vegans / vegeterians I know: they never liked meat anyway.
I know a lot of people who really like cows, but no cows living in their houses, lol. Although some Europeans did that before about the 18th c.

My parents house was in the Doomsday book as a cattle shed. We believe that as the farmer got more prosperous he added separate accommodation for the humans but for a long time everyone lived together.

It was really common on the continent, I assume because it saved building costs and was much more convenient in the winter. And in the summer the animals were outside much of time anyway.
Cool your parents house was in the Domesday Book! That’s really neat!

I am not afraid of snakes at all. Just anything that has more than 4 legs. Especially spiders. Gawd! How I and fear those things but as with everything else nature balances itself out. Just stay away from me. I have been “up close and personal” among cows and sheep and cows can be a dangerous as any large animal can. However, they have the most beautiful eyes and lashes lol and they liked to be stroked or scratched behind their ears. rofl…. Sheep are adorable. But as I said to each his own.

Owls also have the most beautiful eyes and eyelashes 😉 Pumas and tigers also like to be hugged and scratched.. would you scratch one? I guess not! 😀
It is not true that “with everything else nature balances itself out” because we know that due to mankind’s intervention, if all the cows and sheep would be magically released into the environment, a high number of them would have to be killed anyway (this clearly does not mean cattle production should be encouraged! Just making an example).
It is an issue that, unfortunately, we have created ourselves. I still remember working with stags around and some needed to be killed because overpopulation of deer is an environmental problem in some Scottish areas (as it is with opossums in New Zealand).

I had a pet owl named Clem. He was a sweetie and yeah they do have adorable eyes along with many animals. I love animals but am not stupid to the point of invading a “wild” ones space. I love my fingers and hands too much. Mans intervention in so many things has destroyed the natural process. I was talking about the basics of the food chain and what each insect ( yek) takes care of. Once man gets involved all bets are off in my book. Either way, love my fur children. Good or bad i will take them over most people. Sad to say but that is how I feel.

I would tend to agree with you, as I have 2 fur babies whom my husband and I basically treat like kids. And yes mankind s*cks, in particular if you are part of a minority (I am a migrant) and are forced to listen to the incessant rhetoric spouted by the media about how we are all horrible people invading other people’s countries. It makes me sick to my stomach.
I love wild animals. I don’t usually ‘bother’ them but I have stroked an owl and flown a hawk when I was given the chance 😉 they are stunning animals.
One of my cats is the spider-killer in our house. Do you want to borrow her, Irish? 😊

As far as being in this room, I love it in here, we can express our opinions and no one attacks the other. It is just that an”opinion”. Merlin, regarding being a migrant that is a subject that I do not want to discuss but I do know it sickens me with the way people treat other, just because of differences. I am a first generation in this country and were it not for my father coming thru Ellis Island I would not be here. Yes, i think I will keep my animals to keep me sane and know what it feels like to be loved no matter what. lol
