I never believed it was happening on this timeline anyway, so

Disappointing nonetheless. I mean, I didn’t pre-order, but I took it in good faith that it was happening. The whole distribution business is a mystery to me by now. It seems as if it is a miracle if a film gets released at all…

Correction: Apparently I did pre-order. eeeek Just received the delay update.

Me, too. Has been pushed back till February with delivery between Feb 16-20. Happy Valentine’s Day–sort of?

I doubt that’s a hard date. I suspect that there’s an algorithm that updates these things and that’s what’s been working its way through all of our orders all day long.

Somehow this doesn’t surprise me. My pre-order still shows it being due to arrive on 21 January so we shall see. At least I haven’t paid anything yet.

Very annoyed. How much longer is this going to drag on? Did they say what happened this time?

I had preordered also.

I have gotten no notice either that the order has been cancelled.

This discussion is endlessly complicated by the problem of the multi-national character of Amazon and the various laws that govern distribution, customs, etc., in different places. For instance, I did not pre-order, but if I log on to my Amazon.co.uk account it tells me the item will be released on Feb 4, and is available for pre-order. I guess if you’re in Australia and log on to amazon UK they won’t ship to you anyway due to some business dispute. And so on.
Sometime I know for certain, though: Amazon regularly allows orders for things it doesn’t have yet, under the assumption that it will have the item by the time of its listed release. It’s no problem for them, because they don’t bill you / charge your card until they deliver on the order. So it’s not that unusual for items listed on Amazon to be progressively delayed — it’s the actual producer who’s at fault in cases like that, not Amazon.

It says the DVD is unavailable now on the Amazon UK site but I’ve checked on my order, which was a pre-order, and it says the DVD will arrive on Saturday. I’ll believe it when I see it.

That’s weird, b/c when I log onto the Amazon.co.uk site now, it gives me the same info as earlier, namely that it will be released on Feb. 4 but they cannot predict a delivery date. (shrugs)

I used to order without any problem from the UK site, and when I tried to pre-order Urban through there, it actually said that the item delivers to Australia. Get to checkout though and it’s no go, because they don’t deliver to Australia. Cue eyeroll. It was fine until we got our own Amazon site which doesn’t have anywhere near the stock the US and UK sites do.

And … they concede they don’t have the DVD done. Why am I not surprised?

Odd that people have been given different dates etc on their orders but I doubt my copy will arrive on Saturday then if they are still tinkering with the DVD.

I think it’s unlikely — unfortunately.

I don’t think Blenheim/Brady raised the money to fund production of the DVDs. I can’t think of any other hold-up which would make it impossible to ship to any country, including the UK. After all, they hold the rights. I keep thinking of Darren Denison, who managed to get Staged out on DVD, albeit, it was only 12 minutes long.

That’s a disturbing possibility (and given that my students are currently talking about brains in vats, i.e., skepticism, one that really should have occurred to me). Indeed — they’ve got the film done (presumably), maybe they are doing a feature (I hope they are) with the cut where Armitage reads the whole story to the kids — so what’s the hold up? OTOH if Denison managed to get that out, it seems like raw materials cost / production can’t have been very high.

Just letting you know I received an email from Amazon UK stating that I should receive Urban between 2/15 and 2/20. The release date was delayed. Will keep you advised if i receive it.

Yes, me too. My email says ‘estimated’ arrival date Feb 9

I’m definitely not surprised, given their track record so far. Still, very disappointing.

This definitely goes in my “if you lower expectations you are less disappointed” catgory, except of course it contributes to my current “lack of visual Armitage” problem.

I had pre-ordered too but I had my doubts because CB was too darn quiet.

True, we should have expected some info from that direction.

My Amazon update now says delivery 11 February. Candida Braby is remaining remarkably silent about this delay on Twitter…

I suppose it’s too much to hope that this is embarrassing ot her. (when nothing else ever seems to be)

OK, CB hasn’t tweeted anything since October??

Either way you don’t get charged until it is shipped. Which if I never get charged. Either way will keep you informed when I do because it means it is on it’s way.

Apparently some people in the UK got a message today that it IS back in stock.

Just heard this morning from Amazon, who are still showing it available for order. The estimated arrival date for my order is now 1 April 2019 – April Fool’s Day! LOL
