Current projects:
- Funko announces a series of Castlevania pops. Amazon lists them for release on July 7. Potentially more attractive than the Diamond Select Toys option at one fifth the price.
- Castlevania makes a “scariest to stream” list.
- (The Lodge): Collider interview with the cast sans Armitage. Apparently there’s also some further discussion of the film here (I have not listened). Rotten Tomatoes put it on a most anticipated list. This blog calls it this year’s “boldest” film with nice if brief praise for Armitage. Here’s a review at Daily Dead. And in The Playlist.
- Wolverine: The Long Night makes a list of best superhero podcasts. And some more fancasting for the films.
- The Stranger: A page has appeared on Netflix iin the US so you can put it in your queue. It looks like Harlan Coben is going to be responsive; he’s already replied to one Armitage fan. There’s also a Twitter fan page (I do not know who is operating it, and obviously those who don’t care for spoiler will want to avoid or even block).
Past projects:
- (Berlin Station): EPIX announces a new streaming service for its offerings (presumably in the U.S.). At $5.99 a month, it’s about a third of what I’ve been paying for service through my cable provider, but it will not include most of EPIX’s film library. MGM is said to be looking for a minority financing partner to support the venture (after buying all of its own shares back last year).
- (Berlin Station): Interesting comment in The Hollywood Reporter on the relevance of EPIX in the current media landscape.
- OZY likes the Berlin Station and Armitage.
- Advertising for film shoots in Berlin / Brandenburg incorporates brief clips from Berlin Station cast (recycling).
- (Berlin Station): TV Guide editor reveals no decision yet on Berlin Station 4 and urges fans to get loud about it on social media and download the new EPIX streaming service app.
- The music in the car chase scene in Berlin Station 3.6 comes from a Russian rapper.
- Daniel Miller is included in the German spy museum.
- (The Hobbit): A trailer for the new Tolkien biopic has appeared. And the New York Times reviews the visiting Tolkien exhibit at the Morgan.
- (Brain on Fire): What can happen after an autoimmune encephalitis diagnosis in the U.S. if you don’t have health insurance.
- (Love, Love, Love): Roundabout Theatre has its annual fundraising auction on.
- (North & South): Screen Rants recommends it for the post-Valentine’s weekend.
- (Ocean’s 8): The film reflects the good news about many more roles for women 45 and older.
- (Joy Ellis audiobooks): Joy Ellis weighs in. The audiobooks have also been mentioned in a trade publication. And here’s a blogger who approves.
- Amusing argument for binging Robin Hood.
Collateral attractions:
- A theater critic objects to Yael Farber’s Mies Julie production.
Things we’ve talked about:
- There’s a trailer out for series 2 of Killing Eve.
- Ben Affleck again says he’s done with Batman.
- Alternatives for love stories that don’t have marriage as the end.
- Interesting essay on reading Sense and Sensibility.
- Rereading childhood favorites.
- Why Twitter conversations are impossible.
- Article on mystery storytelling that explains what was wrong with Berlin Station — some readers don’t like to be lied to.
- As if there weren’t already enough superfluous fried chicken in Green Book, the editors actually cut a further scene.
- Test your British accent to see where you’re from (it correctly diagnoses that I am not from the UK, but if I were from the UK, my speech is apparently closest to that of people in the region between Birmingham and the Welsh border).
Industry issues:
- Fatima sent me this interesting article about West End casting; apparently actors are now asked about their social media presence. Article at The Stage (I was able to see it in a private window), and here’s a tweet discussing it.
🙂 About “Test your British accent to see where you’re from”.
Some odd result, I am from nowhere, (no wonder, given my low basic level of English). I have to study lot of words. But I send the test to my relatives… Thank you, I am still laughing about my current ineptitude!

I figured I’d be Irish because some Irish accents are relatively close to standard American pronunciation, but I guess not. I thought that quiz was a lot of fun.

Thanks for the link to the quiz! Soo much fun! Of course I’m “all over the place” because I’m not from the UK but it’s interesting to see how the marked regions reflect places I have travelled to so far besides the London region which is probably my “school English”. And also some individual questions where I was surprised by the answers I chose myself and then tried to figure out why I would choose these words over others 😉

Thank you Servetus. Re: Bingeable Robin Hood, I’ve never heard RA’s performance as Gisborne described as ‘Coked-out Thorin Oakenshield’ before. Also, tut tut ScreenRant, whizzing round the centuries describing the backdrop of eighteenth-century England in N&S , which will have us longing for an Edwardian lifestyle!

nothing makes me long to live in the past, not even N&S. I wonder if Thornton could be described as Darcy on speed? LOL.

yeah — Firefox has a setting for “private window.” It can be annoying but if often allows a single glimpse past a paywall.

Looks like I managed to see it at home. It doesn’t negate the disheartening aspect of this issue. 😕
