    • It had so much unrealized potential — but with the exception of a brief uproar after 3.10, there was no chatter about it at all where I saw it. They shuttered their social media again so any possibility of a mass fan intervention that existed was more or less foreclosed by their own lack of interest. It really makes you wonder what was going on in EPIX management.

  2. The only thing I’m disappointed by is that Stephen Frost doesn’t get his just desserts. Other than that, given the treatment meted out to Daniel Miller, I gave up on it ages ago. But yes, it’s sad that a series with so much unrealised potential has bit the dust.

    • It got cancelled because he quitted, yesss??!!! I mean, must be so, he was the leading man as all those press agencies are still proclaiming!!!!!!!! Soooo stupid!!!! (Der berühmte Knick in der Optik!)

      • Sorry, but I don’t think it was his leaving the show that got it cancelled. Allegedly, Epix had a look at the numbers (budget & ratings) and made the executive decision not to renew it and produce something closer to the new management vision- whatever that is; Epix has been so erratic in everything, from its management and marketing department to its creative decisions that God only knows what it is that they want.

        Now, the grounds I would put forward for its cancellation are of a completely different nature and are one too many to delve into in such a short post. To be honest, I wouldn’t be as apathetic as I am but raging mad if this had been the show it never managed to become. What did make me mad was to see Richard’s talent gone to waste and imagine what wonderful, challenging and engaging projects he could have been taking part in during all the time that took him to film and promote the three seasons of this show.

        • I think that if their numbers had been better they might have tried to save it — but we don’t know who else would have wanted a contract negotiation (Rhys Ifans? Richard Jenkins). They wrote Daniel out but there might have been more people who wanted to flee. The thing is — I just never met any non-Armitage fan who’d heard of the series unless they were a professor of German history. I just don’t think anyone watched it, but I doubt anyone would see that as Armitage’s fault.

    • I wonder which way round it was. We don’t know why DM was killed off but, if it was Richard’s choice, did he leave because he knew the series was on its last legs or was BS cancelled because it lost its biggest draw? Of course this is a RA-centric view and the cancellation may be for other reasons.

      • I think he probably asked to be written out (or to have DM put in a position to be written out) early on. But that request would have happened a year or more before the series finally ended up being cancelled, and a lot of things can have happened during the interval.

  6. Doesn’t surprise me it was cancelled out at all. The writing to the show was atrocious and never came to what was predicted for the ones doing it. I stopped watching after a few episodes of season and kept wishing RA would leave especially when they never utilized his talents. Only regret to me is one more series he died in…..geesh, can’t he just once walk away to somewhere normal characters would like to go.

    • I’ve only seen season one and that was after watching the amazing Killing Eve. KE just highlighted how bad the writing was on BS. It’s a shame because they had a beautiful city and the most superb cast. But the storytelling was terrible and confusing and not at all gripping.

  9. So do I! It took me so long to get the nerves up to watch it and then I finally did and just really liked it. I loved Richard as Raymond De Melville he was complex, smoldering, sexy yes a baddy but he had his reasons! The French I just died and went to heaven ! His whole huff and hunky chunky look is how I like him
    So glad you enjoyed it too!!👏👍❤️😘

  11. Season 3 was disappointing. There was so little of RA in it that I fast forwarded it to the end to find out what happened to him. The rest of the story was boring. They could have given R A a better exit.
