Richard Armitage remembers North & South

Interesting. I wonder if he used it all for Thorin. I’ve had occasion to refer to Caspar David Friedrich myself. For some reason Eldena springs to mind. I was there, years ago.

  1. I wouldn’t be surprised if he used it for Thorin. I always think of Friedrich’s Wreck of Hope in Thorin’s last fight scene, with those shards of glass. I love the painter’s work but have never made the connection before with Armitage but he does carry that same sense of remoteness and of being alone.

    • and the sort of romantic appreciation of fog — this is the reason it’s hard for me to look at CDF paintings for too long: a little bit too much mystery.
