Honesty is important in intimate relationships. Esp since he will clearly never be able to give anyone a gemstone since he wants to keep them all for himself.

As a historian I somewhat agree with that — although maybe how I’d put it is that the vast majority of things change very slowly.

But maybe human nature doesn’t change too much.

now we’re deep in to epistemology, but many / most working / professionally trained historians in my generation are probably suspicious of the idea that there is such a thing as “human nature.” However, I would agree that there are certain forces at work in human life at least since the 18th c. or so.
