The Queen is dead, long live the King

When I got out of my car this morning at work, doctors were “concerned for her health,” when I got out of it tonight at home, she was gone.

Just feeling a little shocked.

  2. I discovered the news when back at home rather late after work. Talked about it with my daughter (my son is too young) and my husband. A piece of sad news, nevertheless I guess she’s happy to be reunited with her husband, she missed him for sure. Have a nice day.

  3. I remember HR Elizabeth II with vivid fondness from childhood along with Granny who adored her. All the familly rose mid night to gather at Granny’s for the Monovision transmission of the coronation along with a champagne breakfast spread ! Had my first sip at 6 yr old ! RIP dear Queen E

  4. I think a lot of us are feeling shocked. Although the Queen has been looking quite frail recently the speed took us by surprise and my guess is that it was quite unexpected by the family too. The last couple of years have not been easy for her but she pledged her life to service and she honoured that pledge – on Tuesday as she swore in Britains new PM the marks of a recently removed cannula were visible on her hand. She had quite literally risen from her death bed to perform her duty. What an amazing woman.

  6. I have been expecting it for a while due to her age and appearance of frailty – but I still felt stunned when it was announced. I was driving in my car on my lunchbreak listening to music. She seemed somehow immortal. I loved the quote from King Charles III speech ‘may the angels sing you to heaven’. It was quite touching. She will be missed.

    • Yeah, that’s just it. I was thinking it would happen — sooner or later. But it was like six hours from “oh, she seems to be ill” to the announcement of her death.

      Another thing that struck me was that I was in the car until 830 a.m., listening to the news, she was dead by about 11 a.m. my time and I got home about 7 p.m. From leaving my car around 8:30 till got back into it around 5 p.m., no one I interacted with all day said anything about it. It’s a sign of how much my work atmosphere has changed.

      • It did seem to happen all too suddenly, didn’t it. She looked so cute with her ever present handbag with the new UK Prime Minister only a few days ago. Now that I think about it, except for one woman I work in close quarters with all day, no one at my workplace said anything about it either. That is so sad. And a little odd.

  7. Her passing seems to have been quick and also taken the family by surprise. I wonder if her health deteriorated massively overnight – although we don’t know this for a fact – it’s merely my speculation. And I hope she didn’t suffer too much. I’m experiencing how quickly elderly can deteriorate first hand. So, let’s enjoy life while we’re here. Carpe diem.

  8. She was fortunate to have most of her family by her side when she passed. As well as beloved monarch, at the end of the day a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother… Her devotion to service and her fortitude is
    truly admirable.
