Legenda 56: Stuff worth reading
[Legenda offers a brief, non-inclusive index of stuff I noticed and enjoyed since the last episode. It doesn’t usually include materials presented on the major fansites, which I love dearly, but which are linked in the sidebar. Because I always forget or just miss stuff, please add additional pieces of interest via link in the comments.]
Servetus’ status update:
Since last I wrote we experienced Toronto and New York. London calling — I mean, coming up. Are you drowning yet? I am. I just noticed that I’ve lost 20 GB of storage space on my computer since November 28th. Hmm, wonder where that went? All this beautiful stuff to download for closer examination later.
But I’ve surely missed stuff, so put it in the comments!
Please keep giving in mind!
As a fellow fan reminded me this afternoon, Richard Armitage is nothing if not kind and generous to everyone around him — here’s an example of him going the extra mile to understand, console, explain, ameliorate.
So if you’re impressed by Armitage’s generosity, and still buying gifts, here’s a reminder of the amazon affiliates programs at Richard Armitage Online and RichardArmitageNet.com. If anywhere in the world, you’re buying Christmas presents available on zazzle.com — the place with the Richard Armitage US postage stamps, for example, but anything you buy on zazzle counts — please do it through the links here, and commission on your purchases will be donated to Richard Armitage’s JustGiving charities!
And I’m still asking for “gift bombs” for Armitage’s JustGiving pages or for spReAdthelove. I will make an extra JustGiving donation in honor of the spReAdthelove donors.
Thanks to all who have already given.
…You will meet a stranger / across a crowded room …
People we know were privileged to attend the after party at the New York premiere. Faboamanto reports on an evening she and several fellow fans with her will never forget!
More Armitage sightings: Judiang and her various personality components report on their visit to the Anderson Cooper taping.
Postscript:
Postscript to her report on the TORn pre-premiere party in Wellington: Mersguy also met Peter Hambleton (the guy with the tie), and they are pictured at left, slightly blurry with the enjoyment of the evening.
Richard Armitage Archive:
- Thorin’s weapons.
- The winner of the contest for “Most Embarrassing Possible Encounter with Richard Armitage”.
- GB stands in line to get his Hobbit tickets.
- At Little Guy & Thorin friends’ network (A FB group you must join) — Marian arrives and disaster results; then, Little Guy and Thorin enjoy the beach outside of Gisborne, NZ; and Little Guy and Little Thorin relax after touring Middle Earth; Little Thorins show Little Guy how tough it is to film in the wilds of Middle Earth.
- Judiang responds to Armitage’s beard statements.
- Jas wants us to stop calling The Hobbit films a prequel.
- Jane likes the suit less than some other fans.
- How the fandom just helps one.
- Interesting that Thorin’s the Jack.
- The Waistcoat Brigade, as immortalized by GB.
- Lego, Thorin, and the “M” Word. Retroactive synchronicity.
- April’s Violet checks out some of the Hobbit jewelry and tchotchkes.
- How to wear those shiny suits: Fabo discusses a style guide.
- Phylly feels vindicated!
- Nat, always ahead of the game, wishes everyone Merry Christmas! with some Armitage Christmas fanvids.
Fanfic:
I didn’t read any. The links are piling up. I’m hoping to catch up after the premiere.
Tumblr:
I want to state that this was the place to be for masses of images this week, but I didn’t mark most of the ones I saw. I was too overwhelmed. So just two links:
- What will Richard Armitage think of his own performance in the film?
- GIFs of Armitage swinging that sword with quote about Mana Davis. I have to say what continues to impress me is how he regularly, consistently names the people in the crew who helped him out, worked with him, did his makeup, planned his stunts. He knows he doesn’t do it by himself and isn’t ashamed to say so. What an amazing man.
OT, collateral attractions, and stuff I think about:
- Jazzy suggests this link about people who figure out how to write when they’re a bit older.
- Lovely interview with Adam Brown about his experiences with The Hobbit. Thanks to whoever sent this — kathrynd, maybe? This guy is rife for a “me +” blog!
- Christopher Walken, who, like Armitage, started off dancing and tries to lead a low-key life, interviewed about his career.
- On being trapped in a job that’s killing you: Richard Burton’s diaries just published.
- On the grinding quality of university instruction when you fear you’re not teaching anybody anything and not even the university cares.
As always, thanks for sharing links that we might have missed earlier–especially Fabo’s and Judiang’s RA meeting experiences.

So much fab stuff out there…I do look forward reading your Legenda each week to find out what I missed. Wasn’t me sent the Adam Brown link unless I RT’d it on Twitter…no idea if I did though! 🙂
