Collateral attractions: Mina Tander in Bunte
Thanks to Pellen for sending me this! It’s a very interesting interview about Mina Tander. Her father was a visiting student in Germany, where he met her (German) mother; they married and had two children; during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, he brought several family members to Europe, which saved them but has left lasting effects on them; he died of heart failure when she was only six. She wants to visit Afghanistan, but her family’s property has been completely destroyed.
Wow, I had no idea that Tander had family connections to Afghanistan. (For some reason I placed her in a Russian “Aussiedler” context, possibly because I asssumed her first name was an abbreviation of Wilhelmina – and the only place where I have seen such old-fashioned German names used, was in remote German diaspora…) Thanks for sharing.
