Legenda 68: Stuff worth reading
[Legenda offers a brief, non-inclusive index of stuff I noticed and enjoyed since the last episode. It doesn’t usually include materials presented on the major fansites, which I love dearly, but which are linked in the sidebar. Because I always forget or just miss stuff, please add additional pieces of interest via link in the comments.]
A random Richard Armitage objectification
Richard Armitage Archive
- Richard Armitage, the shy gaze through the lashes, and a cartoon character who wasn’t in my repertoire.
- Great posts at West of Milton about potential “what ifs” in the proposal scene in North & South and possible misunderstandings over what Mr. Thornton “had to say” when he went to see Margaret after the riot.
- thefrencharmitagearmy gives her opinion on the Fault shoot — and celebrates her first blogiversary! Give her some love.
- And she’s also sharing some beautiful hand gifsets.
- Richard Armitage and depression.
- Ogling Armitage without reproach.
- Meet Stick Thorin Oakenshield.
- GB’s back!
- Xenia celebrates her Armitagemania anniversary.
- (R)ailment’s two cents.
- At Etsy: Thorin Oakenshield-inspired rabbit figurine. Not so into rabbits myself but if they made a Thorin / Armitage hedgehog, OMG I would SO TOTALLY BE THERE.
- Artist’s conception of the Armitage Army.
- I’ve gotta make sure I’ve actually listened to all the Hobbit interviews with him — totally missed this comment about Wham! Ah, Armitage, we are of a generation, you and I. (English at end of post.)
- Hobbit crack!vids.

Beautiful new Richard III fanart by Ivanna.

Richard Armitage for Richard III
- Amberley Publishing is giving away three copies of David Baldwin’s new work on Richard III for liking this post and their facebook page. Check out further conditions at their pages — contest ends March 4.
- Latest links from the international press at King Richard Armitage fan initiative — including commentary on a group of living descendants of the king who’ve taken a position on their desired burial location.
- I found this link a long time ago and wanted to use it in the TSIS group read and then never had the chance — an article about Cecily Neville’s religious reading and use of books based on her house ordinance and will. This article is the kind of thing that gives me as a historian serious euphoria.
- A further commentary on the media storm around the Richard III revelations.
One of last week’s Postsecrets
Tumblr
- Young Thorin animated GIF.
- I’m really happy people are still GIFing John Porter. Mmmmm.
- And here’s a gorgeous photoedit of a particular Mephistophelian Porter. Mmmmm.
- Wall of dwarves.
- Another Thorin confession I could have made.
- This is a sort of fantasy / anti-fantasy that I also have — that I’d be capable of meeting him in an everyday situation with a totally straight face. Now, admittedly, given what I do, I’ll never meet him at work. But it’s a total fantasy. Of course I’d cave completely and gurgle.
- Love these Thorin Oakenshield with playful dwarves drawings.
- Cool guys don’t look at explosions. Like you didn’t think of exactly this scenario when you first saw that publicity still of Thorin with nephews.
- Gorgeous b/w animated GIFset of Thorin looking at Erebor.
Fanfic
- Everyone is reading Broken (Lucas North / OC / possibly R); I’m hearing how great it is and I haven’t even read one chapter. Some day. But everyone says, don’t miss it. I love MorrighansMuse’s other stuff.
- At Raucous, “Not What They Expected,” ch. 5. RPF, Armitage + OC. Gets steamy as the parties to the affair take it to the hot tub.
- This is really strange, but think Hobbit cast + Muppet babies. RPF Armitage, McTavish, no slash, no sex. “Baby Steps.” Amazingly sweet. Though I don’t think McTavish is young enough to have had the shoes with the flashing lights.
- And I probably spent most of my fanfic time this week reading RPF slash fics at Archive of Our Own. Here’s the Richard Armitage tag there. Take the warning on these fics seriously. I’m trying to figure out how to write about these.
- Also rereading ch. 17 of “In Consequence.” I’ve needed a lot of euphoria this week and this chapter provided it.
OT, collateral attractions, and things I think about
- KathrynD continues with her list of favorite places: Lincoln.
- Dooce, one of my favorite blogs (I am not ashamed!), turns twelve and Heather’s selling her house in the wake of her divorce: “Metaphorically this move is a perfect celebration of what my website has given me, a place to process and articulate the joy and the pain and the journey of evolving.”
- A vinyl collector who collects only The Beatles’ White Album.
- Jane Austen stamps available in England.
Thanks for the link! Some lovely stuff on here this week…thanks for making it so easy for the rest of us! 🙂

I like the Tumblr one on the fantasy about meeting Richard at work. That would work for me I can stay very calm and not be shy there. I know my job and do it well. But which one of my students would be bringing him to lunch or is he a guest speaker to are students who stays for lunch? He better be going to my sons school or they will be jealous, and we can’t have that. He could talk to the students about reading.

He could read them a chapter from TH.

That would work out great, since 5th grade read The Hobbit late last year. After TH came out they got to go see the movie. They came back and right to lunch, they where talking about the movie and from what I could tell really liked it.

Thanks for the links! I must say that I am a little disturbed by the one with Ed Sullivan and the mouse. Creeps me out to think about Mr. Armitage as a shy mouse. But he does do that head dipping thing. Must go look again at the John Porter gifs to get the image out of my mind….

Love Ivanna’s RIII pic – it’s stirring.
I’m betting, too, that “Broken” is really good, although Lucas fics aren’t usually my thing.
Thanks for this great weekly round-up.
Glad Thornton can give you a needed lift to your week. 😉

Great stuff, as usual, Servetus. Just back from spreading a bit of love to some of the blogs. Oh, and pssssst – but I have it on good authority that that confession about meeting RA at work actually came from a photographer… Pity she’s not based in London, though… 😉

I felt especially connected with that confession on Tumblr about meeting Richard in a non-fan situation. I could have sent it !
