I’m sure if they’d played The Beatles during those union meetings the whole strike would have turned out differently.

Wth? The music is ridiculous.
Hope the dubbed voice for Richard is not utterly destructive to the appeal.

I saw that promo and I wondered if they were going to subtitle or what. So no Richard’s voice? Okay well they will get the story at least but not hearing Richard’s voice would just break my heart.

The real question is which scenes they will cut. I had my students watch the Dutch version on YT once, and they cut the ‘look back at me’ scene!!!

What?!?! I’ve used a Dutch version on YouTube because it wasn’t cut like the English version on YT.

I think they all have different cuts — oddly, Netflix was missing something for a while, too, iirc. I assume it has to do with the needs of commercial television?

As far as I know, Netflix is still an edited version. And the Amazon instant streaming version is also edited. Many people have never seen the entire production! About twenty minutes is missing – 5 minutes from each episode.
I always recommend the DVD to newcomers – and encourage loaning it out!!

What the bugger?!? That is an outrage! Some git is jobbing me out of 20 minutes that may–or may not–have some RA action in it?! B*stards! (I’m ordering the dvd as I rant!) Thanks for the heads-up, trudystattle!

Oh, yes – there are Thornton moments cut out. And who would want to miss a moment of that?!
Thornton sleeping at his desk is one….

Are the Netflix and Amazon instant version the same? Have the same scenes been cut? I have only watched it on Netflix and never knew I was missing anything.
I can’t imagine North and South without Richard’s voice. It gets me every time.

I’m not absolutely certain, but am betting it’s the same copy of edited material for both. I just know if you tally up the minutes listed on the streaming version and compare it to the DVD, you’re missing a chunk of time. And I know pretty much the scenes that are missing. I was thunderstruck to see the whole thing the first time – all those little moments is never seen were like Christmas all over again!! 😉

Were they working on the working class Liverpudlian angle? Very strange.
