Armitage speaks with his hands, listens with his eyes

This interview on iTunes (thanks CDoart, via RichardArmitageNet.com) might finally tip me into animated GIFfing.

And then about 1:20, he starts picking at his cuticles, first behind his other hand:

All my caps.

Picking at his cuticles is the most endearing thing ever. Sorry. Still love that.

Two other things that struck me about this interview:

One: how hard he listens. Look at the contrast between his attention to Nesbit and Nesbit’s attention to him. Armitage is listening to everything Nesbit says, and his eyes are moving rapidly, processing. This is impossible to cap convincingly but easy to see if you look at the interview.

Two: what an effort Armitage really makes to attribute good work to and praise his fellows. Class act.

ETA: if you love this hands, check out Ania’s post here — a guessing game where you match up the hands to the characters. All those hand shots!

ETA 2: Looks like zan and I noticed something similar simultaneously.

  1. Hand porn! Love it. Thanks for the screen caps. Noticed hands immediately when I saw vid. OMG I think I love his hands more than his nose! 🙂

  3. It is precisely these “regular guy” things like picking his cuticles that are so compelling to me…as his star rises, half of me keeps waiting for him to have some sort of mid interview Bruce Banner/Hulk metamorphosis into a surly can’t be bothered cause I’m a star DB. And then he comes out with this!

    • it’s interesting to me that some of his characters get some of his hand mannerisms while others seem reserved for Richard Armitage …

      • That caught my attention as well, even though the interview did not play well on my computer. BTW thanks for the lovely hand shots.

  4. Thanks for the shout-out, serv. 🙂

My eyes kept following his hands, and his eyes, and his mouth. Then by about the 4th or 37th time through, I started noticing James, too. That man is a bundle of energy. I did like how he seemed truly surprised about Richard’s previous Hobbit experience.

I want to know if they choreographed their hand movements. *giggle* How else did they avoid knocking each other out? (Good thing Andy was opposite them. Can you imagine if he’d been sitting with them? All out hand battle … 😉 )

I’m with you about the animated GIFfing. Need to learn that, because, well, his hands. And his eyes. And I need to stop there … 😉

    • You’re much nicer than I — I thought, “wasn’t Nesbit at the Feb 2011 news conference with all the dwarves? Where Armitage said that for the first time? Or was he just not listening?” 🙂 I think I (unfairly, incorrectly) imagine all these people spending all their time with each other and remembering their life stories.

This is crazy but I want an animated GIF of him picking at the cuticle on his index finger and thumb.

  6. Thanks S. for the caps! I noticed the same things and always feel so overwhelmed by RA behavior. He is so polite, kind, attentive towards people talking. And always tries to answer with very articulate remarks, a thing I love so much in him. And those hands… And, for the first time, he sits properly 😛 I’m waiting for someone with proper skill to GIF those hands and let us all drool on them.

  8. Once again that class that I am taking comes in hand. In this textbook it tells us that people who talk with their hands remember 20% more of what is said than those who don’t. It seems that he understands the whole nonverbal thing well. You can hear with your ears and your eyes. I talk with my hands and am not sure about that or not. Picking at cuticles makes him real. Once again another one of my bad habits. This time of the year is bad for dry hands.
