An only half-unserious proposal for Richard Armitage’s next audiobook
Tree’s comment about how the best cap from the audible.com interview was the one of Armitage’s hands made me think: how cool would it be if Richard Armitage also recorded portions of his next audiobook in a sign language? I guess the most common ones are French and American Sign Language, so those would probably reach the most listeners, but I wouldn’t object to him recording a poem in any sign language. He definitely has the hands for it. I’ve reflected on this question before — Armitage as possible Deaf character. Wouldn’t one poem in sign be an amazing gift to the world?
A gift for everyone. It would be very special for those who speak sign language and the rest of us can admire his hands. Great idea!

Not that we know, and if he did he would be more likely to know British Sign Language, which is only 1/3 cognate with American Sign Language. But I wonder if he couldn’t learn one poem.

I am very confident he could learn a poem. And how poetic that would be. Sigh.

A poem in sign language is a great idea, he is already so expressive with his hands. And combined with his facial expressions, that could be very moving.

what a wonderful idea! i expect it would be quite hard work as he’d have to not just learn the signs but understand about emphasis and so on, just like spoken word 🙂 They always have signed performances at the ROH and it’s amazing how elegantly they capture the flow of the music..
I hope somebody takes his lovely suggestion to him and makes it happen 🙂
