It went straight to “trash.” This happens from time to time. I try to remember to look at “trash” and “spam” (comment statuses on the WP dashboard) regularly but I’ve been more erratic lately.

Ah, I see. I’ve started using WP only recently, to comment on other people’s blogs, so I didn’t know this was possible. It only happened once.

it’s weird. It only happens from time to time and some people are more frequently impacted than others. Recommendations — copy your comment to your clipboard before you hit post, so as to make sure you have a copy of it if something happens, and let me know if something does disappear after multiple attempts, so I can look for it.
