The US is such a strange place
The broadcast networks all interrupt their morning newscast for the news that the Sussexes have a baby boy. I honestly think we’re more interested in the whole thing than the English.
Well, happy Monday morning, all. I hope this is a harbinger of a good day. And obvs, congrats to the Sussexes and the extended family.
😂 Thanks for the news Servetus, I’m in the UK but hadn’t heard!

Probably all of your media channels didn’t hiccup simultaneously as mine did. Dad had the TV on, the radio is on in the bathroom, and my computer started beeping.

I would say maybe it’s because the new royal is half American, but I think it would be big news here either way.

I’m sure that plays a role, but I agree with you — the US news would be all over this anyway. Lots of ad dollars to earn, I guess.

People eat it up! I think in America it’s easier to like the royals because we have the advantage of not really having to have opinions and feelings about what it means to have a monarchy. I work for a British company (in the US) and the Americans in the office are definitely more positive about the royal family than the Brits.

All of my news feeds are going wild — they’re just flipping over even though there is literally nothing to say beyond the initial report. I think you’re right: we enjoy the spectacle and drama without having to pay for it. The situation you describe was similar at one of my workplaces where a lot of the professors were from the UK. (Also add to that — most of them were fleeing class prejudices and felt that they’d had better careers in the US than they would have had in the UK. Academia is a snotty profession.)

Even this. It’s like they were lying in wait just for that moment. https://lithub.com/royal-baby-why-is-america-so-obsessed-with-the-british-monarchy/

I came home this late afternoon/evening to BBC News constantly interviewing people on the street in Windsor about the news, filling up all the air time they can as not too many details are known. I’d say they’re pretty obsessed as well. 🙂

For the last two weeks we’ve had a ten minute segment on the morning news, live from Windsor. I think we’ve got them beat.

They were running out of things to say last week — we had ten minutes on who the likely godparents were, for instance. When they cut into the newscast this morning, the broadcaster mentioned she had been on her way to Heathrow — I guess they’d decided they’d gotten everything out of the subject — but now, lucky for her, there will be several days more! LOL. I watch it too. I just think it’s super-strange.

Well, a half-American royal baby in the most famous royal family is apparently what American dreams are made of. 😉

I guess so! I admit that I enjoy it (although not hours and hours of everyone essentially saying “a baby has been born!”). I don’t read the boulevard press stuff but I’ll definitely be there to read the first biography 🙂
My prediction is that the young man renounces the citizenship as soon as he sees his tax bill.

LOL!
Yeah, I like it too (to a certain degree). I always enjoy new baby news. I love new babies. 🙂

The Cambridge kids are always SO well dressed; I’m sure the Sussexes will up the ante. When the monarchy goes bust they can all become advertisers for the traditional British “look.”

has it been announced where she actually gave birth? I heard rumors of a home birth but not sure if that is accurate

That was the rumor but they haven’t said (and have said that they are not saying).

I’m watching the BBC World News right now and they are reporting the baby was born at Frogmore Cottage.

I guess I am one of a few who really is not interested in knowing what is going on with the Royals, however, congratulations to them and anyone else who enjoys news about them

I think there are a lot of people who aren’t that interested. My RL FB feed was off the charts with complaints about it today.
