not final, I imagine — but so cool to click on that today — that’s been my first web stop the last week or so when I get to turning on the computer — and see that!
I checked it this morning too. Great news! Five weeks left at eight shows a week equal 40 sold out shows. At almost 1,000 seats per show that is close to 40,000 people. Holy cow! So impressive.
Hahaha. Yes. It was kind of expected, I suppose. All the awards the woman has gathered. This couldn’t go wrong… Very very pleased for them. And I wonder whether this overwhelmingly positive experience will mean that RA will do theatre more in the future…
Hm, do you think he is paid so little that his luxury lifestyle couldn’t be financed with theatre fees :-D? Ah, sure the careful man has invested his millions in secure real estate. Or gold (Thorin still in his head).
I’m sure he’s invested, and I really hope that he’s a US resident for tax purposes. I just think it would be hard to maintain a lifestyle in NY and London at his current standard of living if he had to live off his theater fees. Someone who works in NY theater told me she thought he might be getting $10,000 a month gross for this role, but at his marginal tax rate in the UK, that’s not really that much. And this is a huge production; if he did some of the stuff he’s occasionally said he’s interested in (Pinter in experimental venues, anyone?) he would get a lot less. In any case, more or less all the big guys (McKellen, Stewart, etc.) say they can afford to do the theater they want b/c of the blockbuster salaries.
True – the blockbuster as a cash cow. Let’s hope it works out like that. His stint in TC has proven without doubt that he has serious acting chops. It would be a pity if that wasn’t shown on stage again.
Agree. I hope he remains choosy, though 🙂 Part of what happened here was that he undoubtedly picked the right project. If he’d done the Richard III that Freeman is doing, people would again make remarks about how he’s not really “high culture” material …
Feel so privileged to have seen this production once let alone twice as going again tomorrow night s o proud of all the cast as well as Richard. It would be interesting to know how many of us have been multiple times adding to the quick sell out! But need to go to bed now to get my beauty sleep before another big Armitage event again!
That’s WONDERFUL!! fist pumps in the air

Apart from blockbuster films, TV advert voice-overs also pay really, really well, and he’s done quite a lot of those. And no doubt will do them again!
