Legenda 10: Stuff worth reading — while I was on the road, abbreviated edition
Done driving. Yay! It’s fatiguing, and can be annoying if other people aren’t driving intelligently, but there’s nothing for introspection or fantasy like spending hours alone in a car with only the landscape and your CD player for entertainment. You’re never as deliciously alone as you are in your Ford Taurus, traveling 70 mph. It also feels unbelievably decadent. I wonder someday if my nieces’ children will ask me, with a tone of reproach, whether I actually drove thousands of miles alone in a car with a combustion engine — repeatedly. Stay tuned for tomorrow, when Servetus says “which email do I answer first?” and actually writes a syllabus or two rather than just procrastinating from doing so. Meanwhile, tonight is for lovers. Or something.

[A brief, non-inclusive index of stuff I enjoyed since the last episode. It doesn’t usually include materials presented on the major fansites, which I love dearly, but which are linked in the sidebar. Because I always forget or just miss stuff, please add additional pieces of interest via link in the comments.]
My mailbox is really full of stuff. Here’s an especially enjoyable selection. This is just stuff that was in my mail; haven’t had a chance to read around the web yet.
- Calexora ponders bidding on the auction item of a Hobbit set visit. She also has a fascinating dream.
- Cat Winchester has a new Hobbit fanfic. Female dwarfs have beards. Against expectation I am loving this.
- Spooky Moo starts a new fanfic, “The Child,” an angsty sequel to her Lucas North fic, “The Sister,” which I loved.
- You have till Saturday at midnight to sent a “Guy secret” and win a Guy of Gisborne figurine from Frenz.
- Itsjsforme gives us an idea of what you could do with that figure on New Year’s Eve if you had it. Though I am pretty sure Frenz is not giving away a vodka bottle.
- CBailey has a new Armitage blog.
Back with a new post tomorrow after I (sigh) force myself to go to my office and see what’s accumulated. My mind is churning. You can’t drive all that way and not have a lot of really interesting thoughts.
We have no winter this year in Poland. We have the ugliest, most grey, windy, rainy and cold autumn,so thank you,I needed that.
Drive safe and take care,Servetus!

it’s been a strange winter in the U.S., too.

LOL. Sorry about not supplying you with a link to my blog – I just wasn’t sure if it was appropriate to add it to my reply to your blog post.
Anyway, my blog is called ‘A is for Armitage’ and the link is http://aisforarmitage.com/
If this could be updated in Leganda 10, that would be very much appreciated 🙂

I’m glad you’re home safe, Servetus.
Even now, I look back at the marathon road trips I used to do without much thought and realize that they are rapidly becoming historical curiosities.
Thanks for the links.

and the road trips of today are so different than the ones of yore, as well. My car is airconditioned; it gets better gas mileage; very little stopping at roadside attractions (“biggest ball of string,” e.g.)
