The shoes I don’t mind so much. It’s the rolled pant cuffs. He’s not a Bay City Roller fer crissakes! lol
This is really different from most things we’ve seen on his feet. If he needed a little break from the ordinary, good for him, but it is a bit headshaking.
Yep. Unless he was expecting to have to wade through several inches of water on the way to his plane, there is no explanation for the rolled pants other than to ensure maximum loud sock visibility. 🙂
Jedenfalls schreit der Look förmlich: Shoot me!!!!

All those years of totally masculine, brown, black, leather shoes, Converse in neutral colors … and suddenly he wants bright blue shoes!!! Armitage breaks out!
I really, really wanted to mention it in german, for not to embarrass him, but we have no other term for it: midlifecrisis?

He can wear just about anything and still look gorgeous imho. I don’t mind the footwear so much, but my inner OCD is dying to re-roll those cuffs 😊 or even better.. to unroll them!
He seems to have a split personality with his airport look. Don’t look at me, I am hiding behind sunglasses. Look at me, I am wearing crazy pinky/orangey socks with blue shoes and rolled up jeans. So we are supposed to notice his feet and overlook his face? If you only saw his feet, wouldn’t you look up to see who would make such a weird fashion statement? I would. And where or where can the ever present leather jacket be? Or did he branch out into suede?
I don’t hate it…on him at least. In fact I love that he appears to wear what he wants without concern for what anyone might think…bravo Richard, bravo!
Guylty, calling Guylty! We need an ooof story from you to explain this outfit. And a photo in the Irish airport from one of your Irish fangirls when he lands. We need to know if he’s still wearing those socks and shoes when he gets off that plane. Which should be any minute now by my clock. Come on, you Irish stalkers. Rise and shine. You’re on duty.
The caption from Corbis says: “Photographed: 18. April 2015” so sadly we probably won’t see pics from the Irish airport.
But I am with you on the ooof story!!!
Spot on Guylty!
Oh, wow, so these were taken Saturday? Which would confirm one of my theories about why he wasn’t photographed at the wrap party: because he wasn’t there. The timing of the “wrap tweets” yesterday would then be a tad after the fact, but that’s ok.
I also call on Guylty – This is oof-worthy stuff.
It’s always easy to state after the fact, but I suspected he wouldn’t stay for the wrap-party. The FD shoot was late, and he wouldn’t want others to wait for him. I suspected he would use the weekend to get to Ireland quickly.
Since Porter flies out of a small Toronto regional airport, I am taking a guess that he was flying into Newark, NJ first before heading to Ireland. Yes, I checked..LOL
As cRAmerry said – not really ooofworthy material – and slightly paparrazzi-ish to boot (no pun intended), so there won’t be a photo analysis of this. As for an explanation for this look a la oooflet – I think he is practicing for this snazzy sockwear choice in advance of his arrival in Ireland: http://www.dublingiftcompany.com/images/products/thumb/T9258.jpg
Love me a bit of Armitage-shock on a Tuesday morning. Thank you!
I did read somewhere that he was flamboyant when he was younger, and I always thought: “Whaaat?”
Now, we get to see the flamboyant side – good for him. Those socks, are they pink by any chance? And the shoes…looove the shoes. And the sweater, and the jacket 🙂 Some fashion statement you’ve got going there, Mr Armitage. If you want to be anonymous and inconspicuous, you’re definitely not doing a good job.
But just look at him! I love the outfit; the trousers ought to be rolled down, though.
Love me a bit of an Armitage-shock on a Tuesday morning. Thank you!
He does have a flamboyant side to him. I can see that now.
Just love the outfit. The pink socks, the blue shoes, the sweater, and the jacket. Just lovely on this handsome stranger. But the trousers ought to be rolled down. He’s having “Problemenhüfte” (trouble hips) again.
If he wants to be anonymous and inconspicuous, hes not doing a very good job. But he looks really good.
Hoppla!
I think , he dressed in a way to thank his fans , who offered him socks as birthday’s present .
He wanted to show them , he likes wearing eccentric marvellous pair of socks , despite what he said earlier about gifts .
What can he afford to wear , when his spirit is joking, whimsical and when he still want to remain “class” anomymous and inconspicuous as you wrote . I agree those blue shoes catche our eyes to his feet .
Consequently we shall be able to discover beautiful socks
– in all colors of the rainbow : green , yellow, pink, purple , turquoise , red …
– in unespected , original patterns : stripes , circles , waves , squares, triangles…
– and with crasy , large representation of motifs : flowers , leaves , animals , hearts, smiley , music notes scope instruments , even red devils ….
Let your imagination go .
He would have to match his outfit with his socks and not the opposite .
Let us see his next selfies !
Lol (:
I wanted to tell some joke like yours’ , but can’t find the words in english out of my brain .
It reminds me my grandma , who was knitting woolen socks with four needles . I desperately come back to John Thorton.
Love the shoes and the rest of the outfit. After some hesitation, absolutely love the socks as well. A brave, fashion-conscious man, expressing himself! Or then he’s just in a hurry to ride Lippy again and has rolled up his jeans in preparation.
Can we just let the man dress as he wants? No wonder he is so hesitant to share with using all we do is take the mickey… I think he looks great and it’s wonderful to see him experimenting and expressing a little of the quirkiness we know is there…how boring it would be if he dresed to match all the time…but then again I am a quirky dresser. All I know is that if I hadn’t liked his look I wouldn’t have made comment on it, id’ve kept it to myself because I know some people can be sensitive about their appearance. I hope he ignores it all and keeps going with the colour! 🙂
First, I sincerely doubt Mr. Armitage is wading through all the comments here (I don’t even think he’s reading). Secondly, even if he is paying attention, I have a strong suspicion that a 43 year old man is self-confident enough to withstand his fans’ mixed reaction to his clothing choices.
In short: as long as we’re not making ad hominem attacks, everyone here is free to express their opinion, positive negative humorous etc. on Mr. Armitage’s outfits.
I’ve seen people directly tweet him that he looks like he got dressed in the dark. Is that totally necessary? Plus I reckon he must see it, how could you not when your timeline is full of it. Yes he’s a grown man. But I think respecting a person’s individuality is ageless. Who knows how he feels about it, so why not just be respectful. It’s only those kinds of comments I was referring to, really :).
Lily — if you want to call out people for what they are saying on Twitter, please do that here and say it to their faces. Complaining here about what people who are probably not here are doing on Twitter is pointless. Moreover, the comments policy here asks that commentators not disparage the behavior of fellow fans who are not here.
As far as respectful goes, I can think of things that are worthy of my respect (traffic laws, my father), but I don’t believe that Richard Armitage’s clothing choices fall into that category. People are going to apply that label differently, which is why the comments policy specifically does not say “we must be respectful of Richard Armitage.”
I was actually saying we should be respectful of everyone, regardless of if they are Richard Armitage or not. I wasnt aware of the policy, sorry about that. Apologies if I over crossed a line I was just expressing my concerns. Feel free to remove the comments of you feel they were unappropriate. No offence meant. Thanks
And I’m saying “I don’t know that we need to be respectful of everyone” and also “your definition of respectful is not the same as everyone else’s.” Some people can joke and still be within their definitions of respectful. Last September, some people thought fake beard pictures on Twitter were disrespectful.
Lily, I happen to agree with the spirit of what you’re saying about his clothes, and as I noted above, for a whole host of reasons I generally do not comment on RA’s clothing positively or negatively (though ok, the blue shoes sent me over the edge this one time! 😉 ). What that means for me in practice is that when I see a post analyzing his clothes on this or other blogs, I just skip it and let others carry on doing what they like to do. There are whole categories of RA content out there that I choose to ignore. I agree with Servetus that everyone’s definition of “respect” is a little different.
Ha! Lief pleads the Fifth 😉 . There are many categories I DO enjoy on this blog! In any case one of the several categories I had in mind is one you limit yourself.
Oh gorgeous. Love, love, love those shoes!!! I particularly liked his “Glamour-Shot” (2012) with another pair of striking blue shoes.
Wearing various blue ones myself……
Impressing 100 comments so far on this picture!! LOL!
oh,,, and just to straighten out: I am and have always been in the boots fraction!!!
But then, I’m a sucker for colours. 😀
..and now on to reading all that what is written above…..
that’s what i ended up thinking, upon close inspection i want a pair of those too! :-p but without those socks :-p got my own grey and blue ones thanks v much ;-))))
mmmhhhhhh……. intriguing idea! But they would probably always be more a hip message/statement than his “normal” ones. Yeah, that lad from Leicester finally reached London!! LOL
I was just quickly scrolling through comments and was just going to say: “Am I the only one who loves those shoes?” when I saw linda60’s comment here above mind. So, I’m not the only one. I absolutely adore the shoes! If i could get my husband to wear them I would, but he is less… flamboyant, I guess. Even the socks – no problem with them! Just yeah, the scrolled up pants – not so much a fan of that. 🙂
The comment count has exploded to an impressive 126, incl. mine. Great!
And this over a paparazzi picture…(hmm?)
Personally, I am enthused by seeing Mr A again after a severe Armitage-drought.
When I saw the picture this morning, I thought – wauw, this is something new and competely different.
We’re used to seeing him mostly dressed in black, and the combination of the two events – seeing Mr A again and seeing Mr A in colour – have contributed to a fenomenal outburst of creativity – multilingual fun.
[…] Trying to decide if should rescind my general approval of Richard Armitage’s footwear choices (April 21, 2015). Armitage’s purply shoes in the Toronto airport. Raised again the spectre of which photos may be published. […]
