Legenda 54: Stuff worth reading
[Legenda offers a brief, non-inclusive index of stuff I noticed and enjoyed since the last episode. It doesn’t usually include materials presented on the major fansites, which I love dearly, but which are linked in the sidebar. Because I always forget or just miss stuff, please add additional pieces of interest via link in the comments.]
In this week which is bound to be crazy, don’t forget to like, comment on, and disseminate your favorite posts and items by our fan community!
Big deal news:
Annette at Richard Armitage Online is changing the format of her site. Yes, she will still be around. Whew! But she will not be publishing constant updates and will focus instead on the broad picture of Richard Armitage’s career. I’m relieved, because honestly, if I were Richard Armitage, she’s the biographer I’d want to have.
It’s hard for me to express in words what this site has meant to me. It was the first Richard Armitage site in encountered, and it was the library that provided me with elementary, secondary, post-secondary, and graduate coursework in Armitage Studies I tried to write about why this site is so great here. If you have loved this site as much as I have, please go to her contact form and let her now. C19 members can read more details about her reasons, and leave a message for her here.
(I suppose this means I will NEVER get an interview from Annette.)
Help out fan friends:
- Melanie Foust still needs votes for her scholarship. VOTE ONCE PER DAY.
- The German fans still need votes to get RingCon to invite Mr. Armitage to Bonn next spring. VOTE ONCE TOTAL.
In eigener Sache:
Usually I don’t call attention to old posts on this blog here, but Guylty posted her *ooof* this Wednesday, just before Thanksgiving started, and then it got buried in the flood of stuff published the last three days. If you haven’t seen it, please do check it out; it’s really good. Thanks!
In which I begin to fear that I will never have another serious thought:
I spent most of my week not surfing the web, hence the relative brevity of this post. Then I woke up today cranky (sudden grapefruit onset, like with the intensity of grapefruit credit swap derivatives or some such) and thus unable to go to shul and also itching to move onto the next biography post and dragged myself to the Internet and then got crazily obsessed by completing a translation project and now I learn that two people I know on Twitter (h/t AgzyM) saw Armitage at a baggage claim in NZ today and that he buys duty free stuff and yeah, I pretty much I am sure that I will never have another serious thought. It could also be the grapefruit, of course.
After going to bed last night, I also woke up to this nice vlog #9 from Peter Jackson about which I have very mixed feelings, which I will maybe talk about some other time, but there were two good pieces:
First, I have a new career in mind. I will become a 3-D computer beard animator. Who knew this WAS A CAREER???
Second, the “elves!” clip. Faboamanto made a vid clip:
and Jonia the Sharp-eyed made a delightful cap. Ratty T-shirt Richard!
And it’s only Saturday. Well, I guess it’s Sunday morning in Wellington now. Hope Mr. Armitage got some sleep in there somewhere.
Richard Armitage Archive:
- If you haven’t done this yet, consider answering the survey being conducted by an international group of researchers on the reception of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It doesn’t take 30 minutes, but the survey instrument is reasonably sophisticated. Despite the caution, I had no problem answering it on my MacBook Pro. Responding it also helped me clarify some things that have been increasingly on my mind as we nudge ever closer to the premieres.
- Faboamanto’s twitter exchange with Jesús Osero, the interviewer from Acción Cine.
- More wonderful wishes for Armitage on the threshold of his step to prominence. Yule from Ana Cris!
- GB appreciates TORn with a beautiful graphic.
- Hot dwarfs hoodie, homemade.
- Gorgeous Armitage art for AgzyM’s birthday.
- Fedoralady on the WETA concept art. I wanted to blog about this but never got around to it. I would have been happy with the hairstyle that they seem to given to O’Gorman, isn’t that what’s here on the right? But I also love Thorin’s hair as it is. In the other pictures he looks a bit like an Amish farmer to me. Which I am sure is sexy in its own way.
- GB still needs to get his tickets!
- U.S. Thanksgiving posts that refer to Armitage are here (at White Rose; at Well, There You Go; and I know there was one at The Armitage Effect as well. Are there others?) [ETA: At Something About Love).
- A deft analysis of head to head competition: Mr. Thornton or Mr Moray?
- How Richard Armitage might look in a kilt. Mmmmm. Love what those socks do for a man’s calves.
- John Porter, Richard Armitage, and moving on from pain.
Richard Armitage fanfic:
- khandy’s “Absolution” comes to a sweet end in ch. 20.
- Looks like a new Thorin fanfic is coming — NaNoWriMo is almost over.
- GB’s “One Last Try” is approaching its end with ch. 15 (of 17). I’m glad there are more chapters because this one ends upsettingly. Reader angst!
- A new author for me, Morrighan’s Muse, with “Return to Sparkhouse” (do not confuse this with Cat Winchester’s story of the same name, which I loved as well). Mostly sweet, but third chapter pleasantly explicit. She’s writing other stories there as well.
- Can’t believe I only discovered this now (h/t Herba). I haven’t looked at it closely. Looks like the stories are all in German, but bookmarking to explore over the break.
Armitage tumblr:
I admit falling down on my job here this week. Please add cool links in the comments!
- This is pretty much a contradiction in terms. But pretty.
- Excellent young Thorin gifset from the latest vlog.
- At Richard Armitage Confessions: more sentiment for “the status quo fandom.” Also there: A fellow Armitage blogger might be feeling some hesitation. If it’s someone I know: hey, it’s okay.
- Guy, series 3 pretty.
OT, collateral attractions, and stuff I think about:
- KathrynD, in “Listening to my childhood,” traces an evocative memory of music shared with family and friends and the way it shaped her life. And she’s finally writing the continuation of her original story, “Dating and Other Games.”
- Given the obvious failure of passwords to protect our electronic privacy, what will replace them?
- Film reviews of two films I loved when I saw them in the 1990s, by Traxy (“Brassed Off”) and Didion (“Home for the Holidays”).
- Visual re-interpretations of that iconic Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving image.
Hi Serv,
As always, thanks for helping to point us to other bloggers doing neat stuff so we don’t miss it!
Cheers! Grati ;->
P.S. And, as it happens, I also had a Thorin Thanksgiving blog post with a new wallpaper or two. Here is that link for you http://gratianads90.wordpress.com/2012/11/22/thorin-thursday-therapy-happy-thanksgiving-112212-gratiana-lovelace-post-310/

Thanks for linking to my blog again Servetus!
The storys (unfortunately) are all on German because this archive is linked to the German RA Board but maybe some of your readers are able to read them anyway.
Not all of the writers from the German RAboard publish their storys there but some do and you can find some true gems over there

I have to admit that I haven’t read much German fanfic — I don’t have a good explanation, but maybe it’s time.

So glad you linked to Morrighan’s Muse’s fanfic. I just discovered her too…love her Lucas North story Broken. I’m a bit of a sucker for stories about him! 🙂

I knew Morrighansmuse from tumblr, but her fanfic was new for me, too. Good stuff – only too short *ggg*.
Oh, and last night C19Jane updated her “Fate & Circumstance” fanfic on Wattpad. http://www.wattpad.com/9174879-fate-%26-circumstance-a-north-%26-south-continuation

Just wanted to mention that it ws our lovely Seba @Sebababy that tipped me of about the craziness on Twitter in an email regarding the RA airport sighting. I just made a plenty of noise about it, as per usual 🙂
Seba aka Gisbornes Boy is the most wonderful pair of eyes and ears a gal have have (not to mention the amazing rest of him).
Reagrding the vlog, I don’t know if anyone agrees, but I think it’s one of my favorite yet. And the “Elves” has become my favorite swear word 😉

It made me sad, actually, that vlog. Or sad isn’t quite the word. Disappointed. But I’ll save it for a post someday when attention is elsewhere — didn’t want to divert from the general euphoria. And I agree, maybe I should start saying “elves!” when something annoying happens 🙂

Oh Elves! I’m sorry it made you sad! That’s a very interesting feeling though as my reaction was actually the complete opposite. Can’t wait to read about it 🙂

The RA Online site was also my first introduction to Richard Armitage. The three RA resource sites that I primarily visit–RANet, RAOnline, and RAC–each take some different approaches to “covering” the world of Richard Armitage. So it is nice to have all three of them up and operating.

Thanks for linking- I’m currently at nearly 50k and not close to finished- this stuff’s going to be epic!! xD Though even though I won’t finish the whole thing by the 30th Nov (currently only 1/4 of the way through, maybe less!) I’ll post it up chapter by chapter. My older Thorin centric fics are here on my Ao3- http://archiveofourown.org/users/Jon
